Is the splash screen still required for personal edition as of v5.2?

Hi, I'm a bit confused about the splash screen requirements. I know that previously if you were using the personal edition the splash screen was mandatory and there was no way to remove it.

I'm using the personal edition (v5.2) and there's now an explicit option to remove the splash screen in the player settings, this works as expected and when I run a build on iOS there is no Unity splash screen and only my custom one. Presumably being provided with the option to disable it means that it is permitted to publish games without the Unity splash screen under the personal edition license?

Would really appreciate it if anyone could clarify this, I can't find a definitive answer on this anywhere!

Weird. As far as I know, the Personal Edition should display the splash screen regardless. I'm interested to see if any Unity Devs comment on this. Perhaps it is a bug?

Could be a bug, I remember there was a similar case with render textures accidentally enabled in a 4.x Free version. Well, I guess the free custom splash screen is on the house. Enjoy it.

BTW in this table you see custom splash screen is a Pro perk. http://unity3d.com/get-unity

Whoa cool, now I have an excuse to make a much better looking Unity splash to replace it, haha.

It's been like this for me since 5.1, I updated to 5.2 recently and I still get the same behaviour on iOS. Not complaining, but I wanted to know if I'm going to get into trouble if I publish under the personal edition without the splash screen!

Good point, I should add an IANAL disclaimer to my comment.

I imagine they must be aware of such a thing, perhaps just haven't updated that page showing it as pro only feature? It would seem a little unprofessional to enable a paid feature for everybody and let it slip through qa and into release haha

This is indeed a pro-only feature and as such has slipped in through some other unrelated change. At least it was this way around and not accidentally turning off something that was previously free.

We are investigating it now, but expect it to be turned off in an upcoming release.

It looks like that ‘Show Unity Splash Screen’ has been indeed enabled for quite a while in iOS player settings (but not for other platforms) for Personal Edition users and this is a bug. But I’m still getting the Personal Edition splash screen on the latest 5.2 build (5.2.1f1 (44735ea161b3)) and all the other builds I've tried regardless whether the checkbox is enabled or not.

We would be grateful if anyone who is seeing this behavior could post specific version of the build they are using or submit a bugreport withthe Unity and/or Xcode project attached because it is quite likely that some other setting in player settings could be causing this.

I'm running the 5.1 version of the Personal Edition that is also able to toggle the splash screen. I've included the screenshots of the build and settings below.

I created a test scene and built them game with the setting turned off, and, as you said, it doesn't affect the splash screen or do anything regardless whether the checkbox is enabled or not.

    IOS Settings On:

    IOS Settings Off:

    Hope this helps!

Thanks, that's pretty much the same behavior I'm seeing. The 'Show Unity Splash Screen' should not really affect the Unity splash as it is used to enable/disable the splash screen on Professional edition which is different from the one used for personal.

Is anybody able to build an empty project without the Personal splash screen?

Hi, I actually reported this to Unity support as well who confirmed it was definitely a bug. I was told to just enable the splash screen. Problem is, mine won't turn on even if I enable that checkbox. I'm using personal edition but it's just stuck without a splash screen. I'm planning to release my game soon, what's the solution here? Can I just release it under the personal edition license anyway?

Probably the checkbox itself is not really causing this, it should enable a different made with Unity splash which is only available on pro. It's possible there is some other setting in player settings or a combination of some other things that could be causing the splash screen to not show up. Perhaps you could submit a bugreport with your project attached and send me the case id?

Thanks but I don't really want to have to upload and hand over my entire project just to solve it :S. Are you able to answer my previous question about releasing the game?
