Question Is the Arial font included in builds?

According to this staff post, Arial is included in builds as of 2014.

Is Arial still included in builds, even if I'm not using the font?

 

I believe it always includes liberation sans actually.

It's not very clear about that. I can't test this for sure because I don't have a system that doesn't have Arial on it. Nor can I uninstall Arial for whatever reason to test.

 

I wouldn't trust what that employee says about how Unity works though, he is only good at sports car analogies. I doubt he knows / knew a lot about the inner workings of Unity.

Monotype doesn't allow redistribution of Arial, and I doubt Unity has a special license that allows them (and even if they do, I doubt that extends to us), so it reaches for Arial on a device and if it doesn't find it it uses the included Liberation Sans.

 

Ok I have clear confirmation with a Linux test station. Unity builds do in fact have a system dependent default font and Arial IS NOT included in builds.
