Is it still 'impossible' to use 4k or at least QHD Monitors on windows?

After considering to switch from my current iMac to a high end Windows system due to performance reasons I'm currently looking for two decent monitors.
In the past I have read several times that unity gets 'blurry' when using higher monitor resolutions than 1080p.
Is this still a thing? If it's still a problem is anybody using a 2K / 4K Monitor anyway or is it frustrating?

    Thanks

Haven't ran Unity on my MBP for a while, but I always noticed the slightly blurry text on the editor UI for that. I recently got a 1440p monitor for my Windows machine and haven't noticed any blurriness with the editor UI - though I don't wear my glasses at home when on that monitor :D

Could you tell me which monitor you're using? I really try to avoid a 1080p monitor to be honest since I'm coming from the 2K iMac and don't want to 'downgrade'. 1440p would be the best solution, 4K is not necessary in my opinion anyway. Aren't the text / UI elements too small without DPI Scaling?

Since getting this monitor, the only problem I've noticed (with Unity) was that my play mode colour was too dark (I'm on free, so grey theme). Had to make that brighter.

Not sure how well it'll show up in screenshots, but I've still got 2x 1080p monitors connected up... I'll do some comparison screenies later when I'm home (assuming I remember :p)

I've never heard of Unity getting blurry on resolutions higher than 1080p. I'm using 3440x1440 (Asus pg348q) and I have no problems with blurriness or the size of the UI.

Well, I've never had any problems with this. I'm using Windows 10, and not using scaling, so i guess that's why.

I've got a Surface Book, with a 3000 x 2000 screen, Unity is currently completely unusable for me on that screen unless I reduce the resolution.

It works fine on my Dell UltraWide.

Unity has proper/non-blurry hdpi support, but only on macOS for some reason. You'd most likely be better off just getting a newer iMac.

The resolution you're referring to is 2560x1440 (technically 2K is 2048x1080, pretty close to standard 1920x1080). That's not hdpi, so is not in the same class as 4K and doesn't use scaling. There wouldn't be any blurriness on any OS with that resolution.

I got my new monitors and Unity looks great on 2560 × 1440 (27'). Thanks a lot for your answers.

I have a surface pro with 2736 x 1824. To be able to view Unity, I scale the UI up to 175% in the Display Settings.

For 4K monitors it's not impossible. It "works". If you use an integer display scale of 200% then using unity on a 4K monitor looks exactly like using Unity on a 1080P monitor. Wicked eh?

I most certainly have. The UI scaling used to "work" for me. but somewhere in the 2017.x upgrade cycle I started getting what you see in the above image. I would, in a heartbeat, go back to the fuzzy text and images that scaling produced. Now to effectively work on my un-docked Surface Book, I have to change the screen resolution to 1920 x 1280 and set the scaling to 0%. It's horribly frustrating.

@ferretnt My apologies for my misreading the implied "/s" that was unfair to you.

Have you tried turning off "Auto graphics API for windows" in player settings, and running the editor under a specific DX version, or GLCore? I had issues in earlier versions where I had to modify this to make the editor work right.

Player settings actually affect the editor itself? I had no idea. Thank you, I'll check out those things and see if they have a positive impact.

In most programs on Win 10, Ive tried Nvidia's upscaling. I run 1440p native but I've upscaled to RHD (ridiculous HD) and in most Programs there is little to no issue. Where there has been issue with fonts, I've been able to solve it by running 'ClearType'. This lets you choose slightly varying versions of text to find the ones that best fit your display and your eyes. I have absolutely no idea if this will work with Unity but it has to be worth a go.

As for the Image you posted @rhacer; cleartype aint gonna help with that problem :S

Yes some player settings can affect the editor. This is true of DX options and Run In Background, etc. If you force OpenGl mode or some such setting, is the output the same?
And could this be a defect of external softwares such as those offered by Nvidia or AMD to control graphics settings? There are many setting in Nvidia control panel, for instance, that may be set to 'Application Controlled' which Unity is having a stress at, or the opposite may be true, whereas a setting is manually chosen but Unity may prefer it to be on Auto.
