Is an isometric map fast to create or does it take a lot of work?

    I'm working in my graduation project. I have almost 2 months to finish it. What do you think about using a hex map (those that look like 2.5D or 3D with hexagons with different heights in the terrain). I'd also have to create the character animations and game assets, but maybe they'll be more 2d with a 2.5D perspective. Somebody told me hex maps took a lot of work so I'm worried about taking a slow road for making the game in 2 months. Please give me some advice.
