Hello, we have been taking a hard time looking to make a game like Duck Game but in top-down, perspective camera, like you see in the video (you see only one player, it will be for 4).

For the time being, we have:

-4 players in a simple deathmatch style game. We will investigate more game modes in the future, don't worry :D

-Game is focused in fun more than in competition. It will mix regular weapons like sub machine guns and shot-guns with fun, crazy weapons as you can see in games like Worms. Weapons will spawn as round progress.

-As you can aim only in the XZ plane, we will try to make levels as dynamic as possible and we will try to implement lots of things that are not directly related to shooter mechanics, to make game more interesting than to just shoot at others.

Now the problematic part, the camera and the perspective...we have been trying lots of combinations....we didn't want to do just a Duck Game but in aerial orthographic camera, and we tried this kind of perspective camera you can see in the following video, too. In this case, problem being, in my modest opinion, you can't see much of the level in a given time, just facing the opponents in front of you (well, in some cases the camera changes to some sort of third person, though, but we are not interested in this).

Our actual proposition is just like an actionRPG camera you can rotate around your character, nothing special for an RPG...For a 'shooter' though, it would force you to adjust constantly to face the oponents that are far away from you, thus making you possible to aim at them, but maybe making the playability of the game burdensome at long term (although rounds are designed to be very fast, between 20 and 100 seconds)...

I am not 100% confident with this scheme...and as far as I know I have never seen a game like this. True if cooperative, but never competitive.

    What is your opinion?

Yes, I have seen some videos about this game too. Camera is steady when it comes to rotation, and pretty far away...it works good because it is designed for many players at once, but our game will be for 4, maybe 8 at a time. Our game comes with shotguns, flamethrowers, and other weapons that are intended for close range, so levels are relatively small too. I don't think this kind of perspective could work. Thanks for help, though :)
