    Hello guys,

We are having problems with chinese fonts in iOS 9. It looks like they are not supported ( we see a bunch of '?' symbols instead of the proper characters). Some other special characters, like russian or german ones are supported, but no chinese ones. Is there something we can do on our own to support them ? Including a chinese font is our last option, as it will increase the build size by quite a lot.

    Thank you!

The fix will be available in the first 5.2 patch release and it will also be ported to 5.1 and 4.6. It should solve most of the issues with the new fonts, but some ( ~1% ) of Chinese characters are still not displayed correctly. Also Emoji characters are currently not supported (this most likely will not be fixed before 5.3, because Apple started using a new font format for them).

Does this issue also affect dynamic fonts?

This should only affect dynamic fonts, if you are using pre-generated static fonts which have Chinese, Russian etc.. symbols they should work fine on iOS9 even without the fix.

It should be included in the next 4.6 path, which should be released on Friday/early next week (unless something unexpected happens).

Have this issue using NGUI dynamic fonts in iOS9 and Unity 4.6.6

When a text not using a chinese font, it fall back to system default chinese font and made the question marks.

At the mean time this is not yet fixed, I need to make sure all text use a chinese font.

But some text we just want the system default font...

Keep me updated if this get fixed in 4.6...

is this NGUI specific? we're seeing an issue in unity 5.2.2 where our dynamic font is falling back on ios 9 even when we have the option Include Font Data check for our dynamic font. we've tried 5.2.2p2 as well. any suggestions?

By using "DFKai-SB" font in unity solved my problem and has no issue for displaying chinese language in ios 8.1.
