    Hi,

The good folks over in the ECS forums recently started an initiative to introduce members of the various teams - (https://forum.unity.com/threads/dots-get-in-touch-with-the-teams-behind-it.1434796/).

Since we know that not everyone who uses burst, uses ECS, and since we loved the idea so much, we "borrowed" it :)

    So here goes -

I`m Lee, I've worked on Burst (and at Unity) for a little over 5 years. My background before unity is working on games and engines for the likes of Sony and Crytek. I've been a professional programmer for 25+ years now, working on platforms from the original Gameboy all the way up to the PS4 Pro (I guess due to Burst I've also touched PS5 code a little). I grew up writing code, started on the VIC 20, moved up through the ZX Spectrum to the PC, via the Commodore Amiga.... yes I`m old.. .and no, I've never written code on a punch card.

While at Unity, I've had the great pleasure to do a couple of presentations at Unite, meeting a number of you over the course of those conferences. I use Unity for personal projects occasionally, even joining a game jam some years ago (although as you may see, there is a reason I work on engines over gameplay mechanics) https://savoury-snax.itch.io/cavern-rescue-udc-game-jam-17-version.

    Thanks Lee :)

Hi folks! I'm Tim - I've been at Unity a little over 4 years now, and I've had the pleasure of working on Burst for all of that time in various roles.

Before I joined Unity I worked outside the game industry. Most recently before Unity, I worked in the assistive technology field. Outside of work I enjoy coming up with excuses to write compilers. I also have never written code on a punch card, but I did start out on a BBC Micro, typing BASIC programs in from manuals and magazines.

    Hello Burst users!

I'm Marco, I've also worked on Burst and at Unity for 5 years (I got hired the same time as Lee). Though I started out as a student worker while I was doing, first my bachelor's and then my master's degree in computer science, specializing in compilers and programming language semantics. I started programming because I wanted to make games, but I quickly found that the world of programming on its own was so interesting. Now I constantly find myself writing compilers in my spare time, I guess it just kinda happens.

    Hi all :)

I’m Miro from Sweden! I’ve been welcomed into the wonderful burst team as a software engineer just last month.

I’ve been using Unity for a years and have an unending appetite for making tiny indie game projects - painting, fixing sound, coding - I just cannot get enough. Before joining Unity I worked as a consultant for a bit.
My primary passion is coding (I’m exceptionally happy to be able to do it as a job) and helping others make games! I love the joy I see in others - especially people who may not have the most coding experience - when they see they can make their imaginary worlds exist and move in game-spaces. It could sustain me joy-wise until the end of time!

Very nice to meet you all.

Thanks for starting this thread Lee!

I'm Josh - I support the Burst team members as a manager. You might know me from the IL2CPP and Mono sections of the forums, I've been at Unity for nearly nine years now, working on all things .NET VM related.

Prior to that I wrote software for the engineering simulation and railroad industries.

Hi everyone! Burst is the most interesting part of the DOTS in my opinion. I really liked your vision to go with a subset of C#. It really showed that "C++ is faster than C#" is not necessarily true, but the compiler and constraints around the code make the work.

The work you do is foundational. Keep up the good work. I look forward to future releases and always read your change logs.

    Hello everyone!

I'm Jonas, and I'm the "new" student worker at the Burst team. I've been here for a little over a year now. The main contributions I've done so far, is the (hopefully) improvements to the Burst Inspector.

In contrast to most of the team I didn't start programming at a young age, but had my focus elsewhere until I started at the University. I'm currently taking a master's degree in computer science, and I must say that programming has been one of the most exciting journeys I've embarked on so far.

Although not an official part of the Burst team, I'm happy and proud to have worked together with these brilliant folks over almost 3 years in 2019-2022. (still happy to help where I can!)

I'm Yury, with Unity for 9.5 years, doing engineering work around Androids, mobiles, CPU performance, compilers and other cool things.
