Interview with Super Mario Bros designers

    I found this video really interesting:



    It's an interview with Nintendo designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka about how they designed Super Mario Bros levels (especially the intro level, World 1-1). Lots of good game design lessons in there.

    I think it's easy to forget how revolutionary Super Mario Bros was. It was so incredibly different from other games at the time, they were doing things on an entirely different level.

    The first time I saw it, I was actually playing games at a small arcade. And after I put a quarter in Super Mario, the other arcade games were just terrible in comparison.

    Most people were introduced by having a NES, and it was just their first real experience playing a game. But the fact is, they were doing stuff in that game that the rest of the industry didn't understand, stuff that decades later is really fundamental to good game design.

    Mario maker was the first game that really made me want to buy a wii-u. I bet its going to be a real systems seller.

    Look at this guy he's making mario marker levels, he beat super mario world in 23 minutes blind folded.
