Bug Internal build system error. Backend exited with code after upgrade to 2021.1.4f1 (stable)

    My current project version is 2020.3.5f1, and when I try to upgrade to 2021.1.4f1 (which isn't an alpha or preview version or w/e), I'm getting an internal build system error.

    Full error log:

    Same problem. Tried installing 2021.2.0a15 and my project won't open now. I've tried multiple versions of unity and they all print this error to the console and I can't run the project. I'm blocked by this but will try to completely reinstall unity tomorrow.

    I had the same problem. I fixed this by completely removing the "Bee" folder located in your project: Project\Library\Bee

    One tip, if you have a strange username like a chinese character, build it on a normal username.

    Most of the time when I run into a strange compilation issue like this, deleting the entire Library folder and reloading the project clears things up.

    Ah, so now as well as killing the Unity Editor process on closing a Unity project (due to the longstanding Application.shutdown.cleanupMono bug), I now need to delete the Library folder as well. Cool, thanks.

    Unfortunately deleteing the Library folder didn't fix it for me. Any ideas what to do?

    Reverting to 2021.1.2 seems to have made it a bit more stable. I still have to close Unity by killing the process in Task Mnaager, but at least I can work.

    did you guys make sure your whole path has no weird characters (or spaces, symbols), including your username on windows etc. I started new windows acount made sure no weird characters and it works. In fact this seemed to solve many of unitys issues, before that Id not been able to make a build for years. I felt sort of shocked how well it worked after that.

    Suprised its like this considering many users around the world will have non english letters in their paths, must be a lot of suffering going on :)

    We'd love to figure out what is going on here. Any of the following info would be a great help:
    - when you did delete Library/Bee, did everything start working properly after that, or did the problem persist
    - I'd love to take a look at a full Editor.log from when this problem hits
    - If someone is actively hitting this problem and can reproduce and is willing to do a screenshare session with me, please send a DM.

    Same issue, but it is not something we can reproduce. The failure is intermittent. Usually the next build on build machine succeeds.

    My co-worker had the same problem, and after updating firebase to version 9.0.0 it worked for him, but broke for me...

    I got 2 different erros:

    Internal build system error. Backend exited with code 2.
    tundra: error: Unexpected stdin

    Backend produced unparsable log entry

    Hi I updated to 2022.1.4f1 and I got these errors. I also get this with the 2021.3.41f version. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm aware that unity has already seen this issue and are getting to work on it, hope there is a solution soon!

    I have completely reinstalled Unity twice. The same error for both versions 2021.3.4f1 and 2022.1.4f1 still persist.

    I also saw that some tried deleting the Library/Bee thingy. The Library/Bee pops up a lot in my output log I will try deleting it to see if that resolves the issue. I'm also seeing the word "Tundra" popping up in the error output, not sure if it is related to RafaelGomes00's error. I'm assuming it is.

    For me, this error occurs whenever I try to use the IL2CPP backend. When using Mono, the builds work fine. When I switch to il2cpp or when I switch to a webGL build which seems to always use il2cpp these errors pop up at what seems to be the end of the build process - which makes troubleshooting really troublesome because I have to wait 5 minutes after clicking on build for it to tell me "Oh btw, it doesnt work."

    Using Unity 2021.3.4f1.

    Deleting the Library/Bee folder did not fix the issue.
    Deleting the whole library folder did not fix the issue.

    [UPDATE] : I managed to solve the issue ONLY AFTER DOWNGRADING TO 2020.3.35f1, to which I got NO MORE console errors. The 2020 Unity Editor version works really similar to the 2022 Unity Editor version. I'm not a 100% sure what the differences are but I don't seem to see any coding disadvantages in the 2020 unity editor version, it works perfectly fine.

    I have downloaded both Visual Studios 2022 and 2019 in my computer. I am able to code C# completely fine in the 2020 Unity Editor.

    Lokiran, I tried to code a simple game in 2d but the 2022.1.4f1 but there was a package error, then I couldn't progress any further. So for now I guess we can temporarily switch to the 2020.3.35f1 version until I manage to find another solution / Unity manages to solve this issue.

    In the 2020 Editor Version, I DO NOT bump into any of the issues seen in the images above.

    I am facing similar issue. This issue started coming after I upgraded my unity version from 2019 to 2021lts - 2021.3.3f1. If any help on how to resolve it, that would be great man.

    We found that this issue was being caused by pending Windows Security Updates. It appears that the Command Prompt may become locked down until the security update is applied and machine has been rebooted. So far we have had 5 people run into this issue today. Each time the problem was resolved after installing the security update and the machine was rebooted. Note that all of our machines are running Windows 10 currently.

    This is not the first time we have ran into this issue. We have wasted a lot of time troubleshooting it (Reinstalling Unity, deleting the Bee & Library directory, fresh pull downs from SCM, etc). Looking back through our emails and chat logs, we also hit this issue right after several Tuesday Windows Security Updates.

    This is the error we saw today until the security update was applied:

    @CrabSchell Wow!! that is an amazing find I was not aware of! We are in the process of moving away of invoking most of these things through cmd /c. I'll discuss with the rest of the team what to do, but linking this to windows updates explains a lot.
