Interests outside of Unity?

OK. So this topic is not strictly about Unity. But hey. As we know independent game developing is pretty intense on the old brain. But not so much on the legs. They just sit there lying about doing nothing. So I think it's good to have other interests that give your legs something to do.

Erm... so do you have other hobbies/interests/sports/etc. outside of making games? Or are you full on intensely driven with single minded focus at the moment? o_O

Also, if you work as a single indie developer or a small team, I imagine the Christmas party would be quite small, how do you cope with the deficit of social opportunities that being an indie/freelance/small team developer affords? In other words. What do you do for fun/ to socialise?

I play volleyball, tennis, and the occasional pick up game of hockey and basketball.

I'm a full time student so I get the opportunity to blab during class.

Voiceovers (but that's not too active)

During the summer, I enjoy kayaking, fishing, and kayak fishing. I also go sailing when I can (if somebody decides to take the boat out).

During any time that's not the summer, I'm a full time engineering student.

I lift and bike to stay fit. I got childhood friends/cousins to hang out with. And my other hobby is wood/metal crafting.

KICK BOXING! I love it so much. So fun to hit other people. I have been doing it for 3 years now BUT I have worked in Taekwondo for 9 years, MMA and XMA for (I believe) 4 years, and Krava maga since last year. My studio does a mix of fighting styles so I get to learn different styles which is really cool.

I wait until people fall asleep and then move all of their personal possessions exactly three inches to the left.

During the semester, I used to do some hiking with one of the university clubs around Galway. Nothing like hauling my arse up some trackless, bog-riddled hillsides in the fickle Irish weather to make me forget that my code doesn't work :D

Tying into that, landscape photography is another long-running hobby, mainly because I don't like photographing people (well, I hate being in photos myself, and tend to assume everyone else does unless they ask me to), and because on occasion it does give me ideas for models or game ideas.

Love swimming - especially now, when it is summer and hot outside). Also I'm found of reading and travelling. Can't live a week without my tablet, because it has the largest library I love.

When I do get the time (between work and my kids bothering me plus the dog being in my way every time I move around the house) riding my motorcycle. Nothing like feeling free.

Boxing and table top wargaming / miniature painting for me. For those not familiar with it: www.games-workshop.com

I actually wrote my own set of rules for a table top fantasy game and intend to put it into a Unity game in the future.

Strategy board games, though all my friends moved away so I only play like once a year.
    Sleep. I love sleep.
Cooking. I make some delicious stuff without recipes and then can never make them the same again. Luckily, each time they are delicious in their own way.
Tennis when my back is healthy enough to play.
Occasionally PS3/PS4 games, but games at times just seem to boring... though Bioshock Infinite was quite fun recently.
    Spending time with wife.
    Work.
Listening to audiobooks (Words of Radiance was the last one, excellent book)
Would love to travel more, do it when I can.
    Eating. Yum.

:p No worries, she knows my brain works a bajillion times a second and I spend a lot of time making her happy and showing her how much she means to me: cooking food for us, backrubs, affections, shopping with her, dishes, chores, whatever else. In turn, she gives me a lot of time to program a Unity game. Works out well. I'm taking a day off this Thursday to go see snow leopard cubs at a zoo with her!

For fun and socializing? Lets see... I have my girlfriend and best friend and usually I just play video games or watch some movies with either of them. That's it. I'm an introvert I guess. Not very outgoing, it bores me and tires me out. I guess if you took me out for paintball or sword fighting that would make it fun and exciting. I used to go swimming at the river too but I'm not in the mood this year. :p

And from time to time, me and my best friend hold "multiplayer parties", which basically involves just the two of us, a 2005 wonder how its still alive xbox 360, both our computers (he brings his over), and unhealthy amounts of Pepsi. And sometimes we model/animate/texture something too. Yeah such a party, I know. xD

And other times its socializing with girlfriend or having a movie marathon with her or playing Minecraft together, or some other game we both like, doesn't have to be multiplayer. Banished for example is our latest addiction, and very unproductive if I might add. xD
