"Installing..." is taking forever, unity hub.

I've downloaded the latest official release of unity through unity hub, the download was successful but the "installing..." is taking forever.

 

I second this... I recently tried Unity Hub, and the 2018.1 f2 was stuck with a full progress bar.

Unity Hub should give more detailed information about it's install progress. Is it stuck? Is it going but waiting for another application to close?

 

I tried the latest beta first, never got past through installation. Then I tried the official release, failed again. At last I only checked the unity editor (of official release), it installed successfully, I installed the components (Standard Assets, android build..etc) later.

 

I have this too. On a Mac. There appear to be a few threads about this dating back a few months. It's a permissions issue with the Unity folder in your Applications folder...

 

I tried a lot of times, it downloaded with success at last.

 

As a bit of maintenance, I nuked everything but my assets store Download folder and the projects. I then installed a fresh HUB. First I downloaded 2017.4.6f1 LTS build. It downloaded fairly quickly. but that was nearly 2.5+ hours ago and still going. What the heck?

Installing with the download assistant version was much quicker.

I am really starting to hate this HUB crap. I hope either they will fix it or just drop it. At this point dropping it to the back burner might be for the best.

I don't know. It's just my opinion after all...

 

It's been working fine for me since I change the permissions on the Unity folder and its contents.

 

Mine has been running for days despite having fast internet connectivity. Wow!

 

How do i change the permissions on the unity folder and its contents I'm having trouble downloading it as well

 

@Klevistp12 On a Mac, do a "get info" on the folder and you can change it in the "Sharing and permissions" section at the bottom. You will need to click on the lock icon in the bottom right first. Or you can do the change via the terminal.

 

How can I fix it on a Windows machine?

 

After getting lots errors when installing 2018.3.0f2, changing the folder's permissions worked for me.

Been "installing" all morning. Ridiculous. I chose the legit route but I've learned my lesson about paying for these products. I'm done.

 

Had the same issue so I just manually moved the downloaded Unity editor out from /Applications/Unity/Hub/Editor into /Applications and told Unity Hub where it is.

 

I simply changed the permissions for folder. If this doesn't work create a new folder with permissions changed.

I also have bad experience with this Unity Hub.
I was downloading the new editor and it was nearly finished, roughly 90%. Then my PC accidentally goes to sleep. Then I switch it on again then the download stopped as it never downloaded any part of the installation...
Gosh.. i have no choice but to downloading it again from 0.
It's funny, you Unity guys please make something that if the connection is interrupted it can resume the download, not starting over the download from 0... Not anyone having high speed internet connection like you guys.

i just started downloading my unity but it took a long time its still not done yet but its alr over 5 minutes but it is downloading. what do i do? is there a way to make it load faster?

 

I can confirm that, currently, the Unity Hub 2.1.0 is making it impossible for me to get the latest version as my connection is at the slow/low end (8MBs Download / 1MBs Upload).

For those who are in the same case as me, you can get the latest version's installer in the archive ( https://unity3d.com/get-unity/download/archive ) I'm posting the link because the current official way is kinda of a round-around. (The Unity's website download/product page only show the HUB to download. Then, from the HUB, when you select the version to install, there's a link if "you can't find the version you're looking for?" which is the link I'm posting above that gives access to the more stable (for low connection) Installer for each major versions.)

 

If it takes forever try to download it manually.
In my case my company blocks some websites which causes the download to be forever.
Unity should have a pop up info if some website cannot be access or the download does not continue.

 

Perhaps Unity should just go back to launching the Download Assistant directly from Hub.

God. How many times do I have to encounter this? this is like the 30th time this happens to me!
And let me be VERY clear: the unity version has NOTHING to do with this bug.
the unity hub installation progress bar is the SINGLE WORST indicator I've seen. for an installation as large as unity, and which gets stuck SO. MANY. TIMES. You'd expect SOMEONE, like - a JUNIOR developer, to propose a single fix, or multiple fixes!!
let's brainstorm!!
- JS extended display - for client to provide information about WHERE it was stuck
- server-side log + daily SQL to show installation processes which didn't reach their end - and WHICH POINT got stuck
- unique identifier for every installation start + client-side (JS) timer: if progress is not made within ~10 minutes: automatically suggest sending a "installation stuck" error to the server: use the unique client ID with the server-side DB rows to locate precise reason why it was stuck.

.... you're up. I have these four killer ideas, which I believe if implemented, would prevent any future installation hanging errors.

 

Good to see I'm not the only one.
I actually seem (ya, seem) to download Unity via hub, tho it takes more than one whole hour.
Then I open up the folder the software was supposed to be installed and... absolutely no files in there.
Tried four times and then gave up, prefered to download through the Archived page

Running Unity Hub as Admin And Closing All web Browers Solved My problem

 

I've also been unable to install Unity from the Hub (issues include silent failure, stuck on "Installing," and stuck on "(queued)"). Tried multiple reinstalls of the hub, running as admin, different install locations, and different versions.

After 11 failed installs I found a workaround for this - use the Hub to attempt an install, then go to %TEMP% and find the actual Unity (not hub) installer, and just run the executable. It works fine. Took like three minutes and not a single issue. Then, force kill all Unity Hub processes (to clear the stalled install attempt), restart the hub, and add Unity.exe via the "locate" button.

I don't know why they've decided to obfuscate a functional installer that actually provides feedback behind a silent (cryptic at best) and broken electron app, but I'm glad you can effectively opt out.

 

Some time windows diffender or anti virus softwares blocking installation. Try disable windows diffender and anti virus softwares

 

Hope you guys fix this issue fast, this is very frustrating because there is no indication that tells me that I'm stuck.
Sometimes people can fail to realize that the installer itself has issues, as most people won't think that a company like unity will release a broken installer. In my case, I thought something wrong with my computer and reinstalled many times, and it just doesn't work.

Installing 2019.2.15f just took me 5 minutes on my fast machine... I think it would be nice to have something like a % done bar instead of the non-telling I-scroll-wherever-the-hell-I-like-bar

 

Yup, the Unity Hub install just never ends. I'm attempting to install from the Unity archive now. Processing.... Processing... Yes, that worked. The "Hub" doesn't seem to be adding much value - but it's good to know you can a) run the hub b) select "Installs" and then "ADD" c) press on the link to go to download archives and install it that way.

 

Same for me on the hub, but I'm just installing proper SDKs and NDKs. It stopped at the very end of the bar, and it doesn't seem to be doing anything anymore.

 

Unity is unable to download android SDK &NDK.

 

I already have SDK. It did download the correct NDK, though. Odd.

 

I fixed it by just openig the unity.exe in: C:\Program Files\Unity\Hub\Editor\2019.2.17f1\Editor this worked for me and all that happened was the installing message to dissapear and unity opened

I've had the same problem where unity was "installing" for almost a day.
go to the unity folder, right click and change all permissions to allow.
close the unity application and open it again.
i hope this helps.

 

how to solve this issue: open unity hub and try install unity. then go in file explorer to this path:"C:\Users\kkfjduoei\AppData\Local\Temp\ and find folder like this: unityhub-2d0363b0-4828-11ea-8f7b-a1459468de7f" open it and you have to run .exe file "unitysetup". when it installs go to unity hub and click "locate". find unity.

 

i think i have a fix, skip the download, go to installs and add
