Quit the Unity Hub from the icon tray (the thing bottom right) and relaunch the Unity Hub as administrator.
This is apparently an issue with the new hub beta. Someone shared this solution in the "Share your Unity Hub 3.0 Beta Feedback Here" thread.

It worked for me, if it doesn't work for you close it from the task manager and try opening it as admin again. If the error persists, maybe there's some hope in the official thread I posted right there!

Any updates on this? Just tried installing 2020.3.18 using Unity Hub 3.0.0-beta.4 and it fails to install Documentation, Android Build Support, and OpenJDK with all failing with the same "Install failed: Validation Failed" error message. Tried running Unity Hub as administrator as suggested, but no luck.

I wound up going back to Unity Hub v2.4.5 and the install went fine. I'm guessing the issue is only in the v3 beta.

I've just spent the last couple of days trying to solve this (technically finding out that the Android SDK/NDK and OpenJDK weren't installed). I found this thread tonight and I tried running Hub as Administrator, but that didn't work for me.

The only Antivirus I have running on my machine is Windows Defender. I tried disabling that and it didn't work either.

It was only after I had temporarily disabled UAC and ran the install that I was able to install the SDK/NDK/JDK to run the Unity install then ran the install. The install went through fine. Set UAC to what I had it at before (one down from the top) and Unity is running fine and not reporting that and of the Android SDK's are missing.

In theory, I thought the run as administrator should have done the same as what I did with UAC..

On the mac the problem for me was, that the folder was not writable. I changed the owner of the directory to my user and the installtion worked.

    For me it was:
    sudo chown mike:wheel /Applications/Unity/Hub/Editor

Good call. In my case I had to also create the "Hub" and "Editor" folders, but this was the issue on Mac for sure.

In my case I had migrated from an older mac to a new M1 mac and for some reason I didn't have permissions to write in the Applications folder, although i was logged in as admin... go figure...

I AM SICK TO MY STOMACH WITH THIS. I'm on my Mac and I've tried everything, from changing the download paths, changing editors, adding on the failing android modules, trying to install a whole new editor from scratch. I've changed file permissions. Nothing is working.

I lost half today because of this. I was installing the android module and NDK download failed. I had to cancel it but then Hub (beta) was saying the module was installed. There's no way to uninstall a module, so I had to uninstall Unity. Sadly I had it open, so it didn't delete the install folder.
I proceded to install it again but this error appeared. I canceled and re-downloaded. Error again. Fortunately it came to mind that I had unity open while I uninstalled it and I went to look for the install folder, found it, deleted it and pressed the retry button. Now it's installing it.

Install folder path: C:\Program Files\Unity\Hub\Editor\2021.2.7f1 Look for it's last accessed/modified date to be sure it's before you launched the install, and delete it.

I hope this will help someone.

Moral of the story: Hub shouldn't allow to modify a unity install if it's open.

I ran into this issue with Unity Hub 3.0.0, installing Editor 2020.3.26f1 on macOS 12.1.

Manually creating the /Applications/Unity folder fixed the issue in my case. It was a fresh install so the folder didn't exist. I was running as a standard user instead of an administrator (I suspect that's what caused the issue).

In my case this was a mistake with the 'new Apple option "Private Relay (Beta)"'. Disable it and the download will working. If you running PfSense with Snort, check the log for blocking of the JAVA download. Disable the rule (SID 17459) temporary.

Worked for me as well, thanks. Unity Hub and a bunch of Unity Editors was installed under another user(that doesn't exist anymore). Changing owner of a folder helped.

    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\unityhub-xxxx-xxx-...

then restarted computer and ran unity as administrator and problem fixed.

Getting this in 2022. The new hub is SUCH a pain!
If I was the product owner I'd recommend some more (user) testing and additional UX designers on the team ;)

For future people also using a Mac: If you have this folder existing from previous installations, The Applications/Unity Folder, Applications/Unity/Hub folder, and Applications/Unity/Hub/Editor folder will all three need to have their permission set for the intended user. Even if said user is the administrator.

For good measure I also did the same to UnityHub application itself, though that may have been excessive.

I'm using Unity Hub 3.1.2 on a M1 MacBook Pro. Disabling "Private Relay (Beta)" fixed it for me. After disabling, I closed all Unity instances and reopened Hub to make sure any network settings changes would kick in.

You shouldn't have to install it in a different folder.

Granting full access to directories in /Applications is probably not a good idea.
