When I change a parameter for something in my scene using the Insepctor, the changes are undone as soon as I play or save.

I think I'm missing something pretty basic here, but I just can't figure it out.

How do you make you Inspector changes permanent?

Make sure to hit the "Enter/Return" key after typing in a new value for a parameter. That makes it stick before playing.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. And the values stay changed as I move through fields in the Inspector. Only when I play or save are my changes reverted back to their previous values.

Would it make a difference that I am doing this with the demo/sample scenes?

You are most likely in playmode when entering the values.

When changing values or doing any work, you should be in edit mode.

There your changes are always saved.
In playmode they always get lost, changing values there is only for debugging purposes.
We should make it clearer that you can't change values in play mode.
