Input problems in unity

This is a bit of a strange problem and I wondered if anyone might have a solution or might have come across it before.

Essentially, while testing my project in the unity editor, keyboard/controller inputs are only sometimes registering, but when the I run the build of the project outside of the unity editor, it is perfectly normal.

A friend opened the project in his unity editor and had no problems at all. I'm using the latest version of unity on Windows 10.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is becoming quite annoying.

 

try to always click in the editor game window with the mouse after you have hit play and see if you still have problems

 

I tried this but I am still having problems.
