Incorporating items from the asset store into your own asset store products?

    Hey, folks. Quick question.

I'm working on a development kit headed for the asset store. I'm not worth a damn when it comes to artwork, but I don't want my dev kit to look barren or unprofessional. I can ask one of the artists on my team if they want to pitch in, but I'd rather keep things simple. The easiest thing for me to do would be to acquire some cheap or free assets from the asset store, to be bundled with my dev kit when it also hits the store. However, I'm guessing this is not permitted? The information I can find only refers to incorporating those assets into a finished, commercial game, not another product on the asset store.

Of course its not permitted by the asset store license (it does spell it out pretty clearly in the license). If it was I would purcahse every asset on the store and then resell them all for half the price.

Talk to the maker of the assets you are interested in. They might be willing to let you use some of their assets for a cut of the proits, or for a separate fee, or maybe you include some of their assets and a prominent link to their purchase page, etc.

The Unity Asset Store folks recommend using their assets (Robot Lab, Bootcamp, etc.), which you can redistribute in your own products. Or hop over to the Commercial: Job Seeking forum and help out fellow Unity developers. :)

Yeah, it's true the license spells it out clearly. I missed section 2.2 of the EULA; I was mostly looking through the Terms of Service. My mistake.

Absolutely, TonyLi, I intend to hire some help on my projects, although it's more practical to rely on internal work for this dev kit and then channel excess profits from that into fleshing out prototypes for new games. One of my artists has a lot of time on his hands and likes to be kept busy. :) He's already agreed to pitch in, much to my relief. Although, I'll probably combine that with Unity's official assets as you suggested.

Oh, I can't wait to be done with this dev kit. 10,000+ lines of code with a few weeks to go - the Asset Store QA team is going to LOVE me.

I dont think you are supposed to include unitys assets in your kits. I even have an email from the store saying that.

I think it's fine for the Unity's Free Assets, such as UFPS AI Asset Pack:
https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/6080 It includes the Bootcamp Soilder Model

    here is another: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/9771
    includes the Robot Model

These seem to be OK, but I am curious about say using an entire project like this one:
    https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/7677

just using the project asset completely but including your own scripts for say a game kit asset or something. I will email Unity Asset Store about this, as i'm curious about this myself.

Kuroato is correct. When the Asset Store folks had a question about a package I submitted (whether I owned the rights to sell an included model, which I do), they directly suggested using UT's free assets as an alternative. So, like Kuroato writes, that's why you see so many assets using Bootcamp.
