I wanted to post this as an FYI for anyone who runs into this issue.

I have a 2017 macbook pro with mojave, a targus docking station, and 2 monitors attached via HDMI.
Unity 2018/2019 would not open at all with this setup. It would just hang.

The solution to this problem is:

    -Undock your Mac
    - Open Unity( create/open a project in the unity hub)
    - Go to unity preferences
    - Under general, device to use -> change from automatic to a specific listed video card( mine was AMD Radeon Pro 555). You may have mulitple options - in that case you may need to repeat for each option to determine which one will work.
    - Quit unity
    -Redock the mac
    - Open a project in unity hub. It should open as intended now.

This is what worked for me.
I hope it helps folks out there struggling with the same issue.

    Thanks!
