Resolved in 2021.2.0a16 - Ubuntu based Linux - Editor doesn't start maximized ...

    ... and switching from one layout to another makes it shrink.

    The image below was taken on loading an empty project. You can see that it's not maximized:

    After maximizing it manually, switching between all the available layouts makes its height shrink. The image below was taken after I switched to 2 by 3:

    and switching to each available layout down to "Wide", and here is what Unity looks like after loading "Wide":

    I found a fix:
    1. maximize Unity manually
    2. load the Default layout.
    After that switching from one layout to another won't modify the size of the editor. Unfortunately, the editor will always start not maximized and you'll have to use the fix each time you load your project...

    We'll have a look. Could you please elaborate on the bug reporter not working part? What happens when you try to submit a report?

    Nothing, whether I use the link in the editor or try to directly start the executable. The executable is set "executable".

    Hello!

    The problem will be more elusive that I could have hoped for. Today, the part where I say "After maximizing it manually, switching between all the available layouts makes its height shrink." is no longer true. After maximizing the editor switching between layouts no longer makes it shrink; the shrinking happens only if I do not maximize the editor before switching between layouts.

    It's still true though that:
    • the editor doesn't start maximized,
    • the bug reporter doesn't work.
    :)

    So far no one on our side was able to reproduce the layout issues. Could you please try to submit a bug for it with an older version of the bug reporter or do those also no longer work?

    Alternatively, you can also use the Hub bug reporter. Please attach the Editor log files manually in that case.

    Well, I guess I'll have to live with it. How about the other problem about Alpha1 no longer working?

    1. So, what can I say? I just created a new project with 2019.2.21f1, the oldest version of Unity I have right now, and it started maximised, The bug reporter works perfectly (image below).
    2. Immediately after, I created a new project with 2021.1.0a9, it didn't start maximised. The bug reporter doesn't work at all.

    @LeonhardP So, 2021.1.0b1, still doesn't start maximized and the bug reporter doesn't work either. What are guys doing about that?

    @LeonhardP A small update about that. I switched to Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa and the problem is still there.

    I have three versions of Unity installed: 2019.2.21f1, 2019.4.18f1 and 2020.2.0a15.
    1. projects created with 2019.2.21f1and 2020.2.0a15, old and new, all start maximized,
    2. projects created with 2019.4.18f1, old and new, all do not start maximized. Worse, the fix I mentioned in the first no longer works.
    It doesn't look like much, people reading this may think "Well, just maximize the editor manually, problem fixed!" Yeah, sure, but how do you explain point 1 then?

    Maybe I'll come back here when Linux Mint 20.2 will be released, in about six months, and every other six months, to mention that the problem is still going on... :)

    In Manjaro 20.2, after unityhub its all configured to launch unity 2019.4 with a new Urp project , it suddenly closes without errors.

    I got some updates:

    The Editor shrinking when switching layouts issue has been reproduced internally and is being tracked here:

    Regarding the Editor not starting maximized after being shut down in a maximized state, the team was unable to reproduce this behaviour.

    Could you please check whether your system configuration matches the recomended specifications listed on the following Unity documentation page?

    Specifically: Gnome desktop environment running on top of X11 windowing system

    Using an unsupported desktop environment is likely the cause of the Editor getting unmaximized when launching.

    I'm using Xfce, as mentioned on my profile,
    Code (CSharp):
    1. Desktop: Xfce 4.14.2
    and I won't switch to Gnome. I guess I'll have to live with that then. Pity.

    Edit: I installed the Cinnamon desktop environment (supposedly based on Gnome) and switched to it: Unity still starts not maximized.

    I have news about that. I just installed 2020.3.0f1 and things seem to work better, not properly but better.
    1. After installation, I created a project; this project started maximized. Okay!
    2. I closed said project and restarted it; the project didn't start maximized. Not okay, but... and this is the improvement I mentioned...
    3. After maximizing the project manually, it stayed maximized even if I switched from one layout to another, even a custom one. Big improvement compared to the previous versions!
    4. I closed and reloaded the project several times and this behaviour is constant.
    I don't know what you guys did but, please, keep going! :D
