    hi, my PC crashed while i was using unity and now my project is taking ages to import / start up - the project isn't really big so normally i guess it takes like 30s at most to import / start up but now it has taken over 5 hours and still looks to be about only 20% done... it isn't stuck as such cos the progress is moving, i'm just curious if this is normal or is there some way to reset it? i assume it is checking all the files since it didn't close nicely but i don't see why it should take quite so long?

    using unity 2020.2.5f1

    it is only the project that was open when unity crashed that is taking ages, new projects and other existing projects still load fine

    p.s. it looks like it's using about 5% CPU so maybe this process could be speed up by using more

    It may be that your project has been corrupted somehow. Are you using version control or taking any backups?

    yh i think it didn't like that the PC completely died while i was testing the project - it shut off because of overheat protection, good old VR
    i'll take a look and see if there's a recent back up but yh i should definitely make sure i have a better back up system, thanks for the reminder

    I highly recommend the use of version control software such as Unity Collaborate or Git.

    yh 1gb isn't much but i guess at worst if i just remember to publish my scripts there that'll save me some work if i lose them.
    for now i just built a new project and imported everything over to it manually, it didn't take long and everything is working fine - gave up waiting on the old project to import after 7 hours (i was doing other things of course, just curious if it would ever actually import)

    Having the same problem now, After effects forced unity to die, import has been going for 20 hrs, the thing is it is reading the disk and the memory is going up and down, does that imply it IS working?

    Unity really should show you the files its processing in this phase to avoid the ambiguitity, ie, is it even doing anything, we would know that if we could see the files.

    I would've killed the process about 19 hours and 55 minutes ago, then delete the library folder.

    I killed unity-accelerator.exe and it instantly loaded, looks like it was stuck in a loop importing some prefab from the cache server over and over

    Unity -> Preferences -> General -> Compress Assets on Import [false].
