    Hello,

I've been having a problem with importing audio into Unity (2021.3.17f1). When I import audio files into the Assets folder, the dialogue box on the right tells me that the file's Original Size and Imported Size are both 0 B, and the file cannot be dragged into the AudioClip section of an Audio Source object.

I've tried importing .mp3 and .wav files, as well as restarting both Unity and my computer. None of these have worked, and it consistently fails to import properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Unity version:

That is very very strange! Does it do that on all your 2021.3.17f1 projects? What OS are you working with?

After checking the error handler again, a new message has appeared:

I've located the libvorbis64.dll in [PATH_TO_UNITY]/Data/Tools/FSBTool/x64, and copied it to the folder where Unity.exe is located; however, the error persists. Is there another path that "application directory" refers to?

The library's original location is good, so the fact that it "could not be found" is surprising. I would have tried the same thing you did. Just to triple-check, did you put it in the appropriate version of Unity installation folder? I honestly doubt that it would fix this but we never know...

It feels like something might have gone wrong with your installation. If this was a issue with the programming of Unity, it would certainly have been tackled the second it surfaced because of its catastrophic implications! It's probably more related to configuration...

I would recommend the raw uninstall-reboot-reinstall method :*( Otherwise before doing that, if you have other versions of Unity installed, I'd try migrating your project to another version, with a potentially cleaner set of binaries, to see if this still happens.

    Godspeed
    Keep me posted!

Is there a particular version I should migrate to that might yield better results?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and also tried migrating to other versions... unfortunately nothing seems to work. :(

Wow I am really sorry to hear this...
I don't think a version might be better than another one, since this kind of level issue must not happen, in any version of Unity... It could not have been released with such a major problem.

Do you still have the "could not find libvorbis.dll" error with these later versions?

I'm really sorry you're going through this... A few more thoughts here:
    • Could it be that you have other versions of libvorbis.dll on your machine at that for some mystical reason, they'd be targeted instead of the one provided with the Unity build because it's earlier on your %PATH% environment variable?
    • Could it be that, following some misfortune or strange custom processing, the .wav and .mp3 file headers deviate from the standard? This could? happen if you produced them yourself with a DAW or something similar. Maybe try a file that you're able to play in Winamp (do I show my age there?) or in another media player.
    • If you start a new, empty Unity project, can it import audio files successfully, or do you have other running projects that don't show this issue?
