Every thing I have ever opened, refused to run due to 'compiler errors' Even the PAY Tutorials I buy are nearly impossible to learn anything from, you can never get to the lesson from all the errors..

Anyways, Opened the Cardboard.sdk. Did every step (all of 2) precisely, which amount to findingvthe folder in project window then opening DemoScene.unity

    I get this:

Assets/Cardboard/Scripts/GazeInputModule.cs(24,19): error CS0234: The type or namespace name `EventSystems' does not exist in the namespace `UnityEngine'. Are you missing an assembly reference?

I, of course, do not know if I am missing a reference, (or know what a reference is...) this is supposed to be a teaching demo, all I have learned is that like 30 or so others I have tried, it does not work.

I tried to find the offending line in Mono, to put random words in for a few hours.. but there is no Edit/Find ...... I tried to use the bizarre "Use ctrl plus +" TO search but couldn't figure out how to use this overly complex search function, (simply to find a word in the text, I guess the CTRL-F was too obvious and the Unity developers wanted to be more cryptic and (lets say it) Silly...)

    Rarely been this frustrated.

    I am in Unity 4.5.0f6

I would love to start to get a handle on how to add Unity to my quarter century of Media development and Character Animation skills, but I have yet to find a tutorial that will run without errors, Errors are the end of any learning session because if it doesn't do what the 'teacher' says its supposed to, then you're S*** out of luck.. Wjat do you do? Brick wall. of course... 3
It probably works in Every Version of Unity except the one I have (Actually since they change as much as possible arbitrarily between releases it probably works on only One Obscure Build from 4 years ago.)

Even worse, I copied the text in to Notepad so i could Search It,.. The phrase 'EventSystems' no where in the file it is complaining about, I went into Project/Edit references in Mono, but the word EventSystems is no where to be found. I can usually work through any problem unless it is just so poorly put together no one can understand, this seems to be one of those,. except others must have made it work. Its Cardboard!

I'd assume the issue is that the package you're trying to use was made for unity 4.6 or above. The EventSystem was introduced with 4.6's new Unity UI.

As @larku said, if you are using Unity 4.5, the EventSystem class does not exist. Delete GazeInputModule and the DemoScene folder from the project, and use the stuff in the Legacy folder instead.

Alternatively, you might want to upgrade to the latest Unity 4.6.4, which fixes a number of bugs that affected Cardboard (the Input.gyro and other sensors are no longer broken, for one thing).

Hmm, I opened a new project and imported the Cardboard SDK package in first and it worked, how can I fix the project I want to add Cardboard into?

I'm having similar problems in Unity 5.2.3f1... just started a new thread about it.

I never used to have these weird namespace/reference errors, and I'm at a loss as to why they are even occurring.

After getting all my assets in order and getting half-way into another project this happened to me again. Reimport all fixed it right up. :)

@orvedal, you had already imported the Cardboard SDK? And was this the first time it happened on the new project, or second? Interesting that a simple reimport fixed it.

Yes, I had cardboard loaded prior. This happened to me a lot before upgrading to Unity 5.3, and reimport all always fixed it. Not having to reimport anymore leads me to believe it was a problem with my install(??)
