I'm studying Unity Optimization, but I'm not getting anywhere. What should I do?

    hello.
I am currently looking for a job.
I have an interview with a company and the person they need will have to do 2 roles,
    one to do mobile optimization
and the other to optimize a project implemented in VR.

For the first role, mobile optimization, I implemented a project to implement and submit a related project,
but I don't have any VR equipment.

When I put this project on my Android phone, the frame was only 12fps,
so I thought it would be a good result if I could raise it to 30fps and 60fps, so I worked on it.

I tried applying Static Batching and Occlusion Culling and the frames are still at 12fps.

I have to submit this to a company, so should I optimize it with other assets?
Or should I study other optimization methods and apply them further?

The company provided you with that project? If so, they know what they would expect someone they are looking for should be able to perform well and quickly - the more of these adjustments they know about the better of course.

You seem to be approaching this only from a single angle though. The first thing I'd expect a reasonable candidate to do is to profile!

But you're fixated on batching and culling and after that didn't change anything, you're already out of options. It does prompt me to question whether that's the kind of job/role you should apply for? But ... of course you can learn all that stuff and if it's a learning project, alright.

But you should take the lead on that, not ask others for help - after all this is for a job interview! You need to be able to do that stuff professionally, on your own terms, and give it your best effort - otherwise you're going to struggle even if they hire you! For that reason I'm not going to hand out tips beyond: profile, research, make a change, repeat! ;)

This is the basic process of optimization, what follows after that is gaining more and more experience.

You cannot improve without measuring. If your first action wasn't to use Unity profiler and device-specific GPU profilers (iOS, Adreno, Mali, etc) to see what the current bottlenecks are, then you might have a hard time getting this position.

It seems you still have plenty to learn and at best, you can be honest with them and tell them you are learning this but you recognise you still have much to learn and are keen - it almost certainly wont get you the job but at least you will be recognising your failures.

Maybe you should not be applying to jobs you clearly don't have the experience or knowledge for?

This is like me applying to a carpentry job and asking on the forum how to do carpentry

Optimization, and especially in VR / mobile is not for beginners and goes quite deep.

Nah, you can be a beginner carpenter and apply for beginner carpentry jobs.

This is more like applying for a position for handmade dovetail joinery and asking on the forums how to do carpentry.

(yes, I'm being nitpicky and off topic, but in my defence, this thread is boring)

OP: Unfortunately the answer here on what you should do is mostly "get a lot more experience".

Closed, wrong forum, and not really a question for these forums. It's not really ethical. If you are looking to learn about optimization that is one thing, if you are looking for answers on how to fake your way into job, this is not the place. Optimization is a skill set, not a button you push.
