Some women claiming to be from Unity rang me saying I owe them 60 euro a month for having downloaded the personal edition of unity from https://unity3d.com/unity/personal-edition even though its marked as free. Was this a scam?

Either a scam or an accounting error. Contact Unity directly just to clarify. There may have been a mistake with your account that put you on the wrong list.

Hmmm.....get the phone number.....call them back , ask for the billing manager......ask what license number they are refering to, and what add-ons...and since Unity has no COD's, what payment method was used to obtain this license ...sounds like a scam, making 100k on unity?....only other scenario, unless someone is confused.....

I've sent Unity an email about it so hopefully they can clarify if it was a fake call. I definitely don't make 100k with Unity and my Unity account shows that I have no subscriptions. The women also said I'd be charged 400 euro on top of the 60 per month because I had missed the first monthly payment.

Its very odd. Also I couldn't get the phone number as it was a private number.

I've been at the mercy of behind payments with Unity, and they allow up to 3 months then sent to a credit agency. I've never had a phone call from them or anything. But nevertheless I still paid it off completely.

I'm sure it's a scam of some sort.

Sounds like a scam to me.

"This is the tax collection agency, and we concluded that you're hiding money from us! Transfer X dollars to this account NOW or we'll sent swat team to seize your property and shoot your dog!".

    This kind of thing.

When the other side of conversation pressures you into reacting immediately and paying for something, that's a big red warning flag.

Private number + demand for money + sense of urgency = Yep, definitely a scam.

But then it raises the question, somebody who literally just joined Unity not so long ago,how did somebody know he had Unity in the first place?

Maybe the scammer got lucky. Maybe something got hacked. If you think it's an issue you should raise it with the Unity security guys.

Sounds like a scammer you can usually tell if the person sounds like they are from a different country.

It'd be funny if that person found his information by checking these forums for newcomers and then came across this thread discussing the incident.

What's so odd is that the women who phoned me had an Irish accent (I live in Ireland) and she claimed to be calling from Unity Offices in Dublin. It seems like a very niche scam and I'm shocked that a women with a such a seemingly local and friendly voice would be part of a malicious group trying to scam people.

She knew my name and that I had downloaded Unity.

But yeah, definitely feels like a scam. Thanks guys for your responses and its good to get this message out to the community so people are aware of the types of Unity scams floating around out there.

Haha that's great. I think unity3d is better named unity since it brings platforms together.
