The Unity forums - where you'll get ripped to shreds in the nicest way possible.

In Angular or React its 1 hour work. In Unity UI 40 hours easy.. :D

    If he's charging 1$/hr, I don't see the problem.

Loading screen secretly mines for bitcoins, and sends to ZombieGorilla

I would have done this for about 5-7 hours billed work, that includes any extra time needed for bugs etc.

    Your being ripped off.

Kudos to you for actually doing it!

We need to get to the bottom of this!

I was quite surprised when a short while ago my antivirus blocked a coin miner from a website that I thought was totally legit. It was an audio hard- and software forum iirc. That was the first and only time I ever saw one "in the wild".

Back end networking can be a real pain and slow going. If the lobby system, quick start match making, and in game chat are all fully functional it may well have taken him 40 hours or even more to get working.

Indeed. Plus the planning and documenting @nathan_epc mentioned - its important stuff. Plus the back-end work behind the GUI block-in we've seen.

It could have been as little as an hour. But it could have been a week or more, too.

The more a client sticks their nose in the process as it is ongoing the more should be charged. Client here appears to be a lil b**** by coming in and ranting, getting dozens of replies and not engaging. I may be able to do this in record time but would I want to deal with the client and if I have to then I charge a premium.

Isn't this something websites began implementing as an alternative to showing ads? It's usually listed somewhere on site.

No. I'm too busy being amused by the fact that someone hasn't responded since @zombiegorilla posted his example. :p

It's completely impossible to judge this from anything here. Like utterly impossible.

    Does this include the logo?
    Does the server work?
Was there any 'project' to start with?
How long did discussion take, were those billable hours?
How much experience did the developer say they had?

Any project of any size is capable of taking huge amounts of hours depending on the individuals involved and the details of what was done.

For example, making a cup of coffee can cost thousands of dollars and weeks of time if I fly to jamaca, pick the beans myself, roast them, grind them, and fly back to actually brew the coffee.

It can take years if I do high detail study on growing coffee, managing fields, and buy land required to grow the beans myself.

Other people might just grab a pre-packaged coffee capsule, stick it in a machine and push a button.

Advice: don't work with contractors on an hourly basis unless you're capable of at least estimating if they're robbing you or not (and have some understanding of whats involved). Just do fixed cost pricing per milestone if you have no clue what's involved.

Maybe the OP is the developer.
