Okay first I installed Unity Hub on my Chromebook using the Linux (Beta) version commands as follows.

    wget -qO - https://hub.unity3d.com/linux/keys/public | gpg --dearmor | sudo tee /usr/share/keyrings/Unity_Technologies_ApS.gpg > /dev/null

    udo sh -c 'echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/Unity_Technologies_ApS.gpg] https://hub.unity3d.com/linux/repos/deb stable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/unityhub.list'

    sudo apt update
    sudo apt-get install unityhub

I may also have attempted to installed a later version using this.

    sudo apt-get install unityhub=3.4.1-beta.1

but the newer version is the one installed.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After I installed this version of Unity Editor.

    Unity 2017.4.40
    May 18, 2020

    Here ----> https://unity.com/releases/editor/archive#download-archive-2018

Now I both have Unity Hub and it's counterpart Unity Editor installed.
I created a new project, but I can't seem to be able to open it.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can anyone help? It's telling me to go check the log files, but to me that's all gibberish.

Unity Hub is a tool to handle Editors, you can have many Editor versions installed and select from your hub. Sounds like your Hub installation went fine.

If you're just setting up for the first time, I suggest the 2021 or 2022 LTS version of Unity. As I said you can have many, just they can take up disk space. Maybe try installing one of these and try that, too.

Apart from that, impossible to say what's wrong without seeing any logs.

I'm working with little space here, downloaded Unity Hub and Unity Editor. The problem is "My project" won't open.
I posted a link to the logs, but I assume you probably can't see them and they're so long I can't screenshot it all at once especially not copy paste it all. Let me try.

No you didn't, you posted a local link that will work only on your computer. If you want to post a log, you need to paste the whole log file as a file attachment.

Copy pasted to a .doc and downloaded it as a .pdf file so I can send it as an attachment for your eyes to see. There we go progress!

Go to your Unity Hub Preferences -> Licenses and see that you have your license there in state of Activated. Even if you have it, re-enter it, and try again.

If your license is activated, I think it should work. Try it.

Ok next thing to check, see where you created your My Project root directory is. You need to have read and write access to this directory with
    chmod 700

I've tried this method. I can access the folder it's in, but I can't see it and I don't have permissions to do anything and I can't give myself permissions.

You're a bit new to Linux? You need to be root or use
    sudo
    to have permissions.

    For example
    sudo chmod -R 700 <targetdirectory>
will do the trick, given that you're on Ubuntu or something, and you are a sudoer. Also, every directory up in the hierarchy needs to have user execute rights.

Yes I know about Sudo and Root. I don't have permissions even though I tried giving them to me and the command line you're giving to me is yes more complex because I am new to Linux. The File Directory is /home/_mtw/Unity/My Projects/My project now I tried this with sudo chmod -R 700 and probably using it wrong because I don't seem to be quite getting anywhere.

    sudo chmod -R 700 "/home/_mtw/Unity/My Projects/"

Btw you should avoid spaces in dir and file names in Linux, or you need to quote everything.

Now your My Projects dir has write access. Then you need to delete the project you created and create a new one

Okay. Your log has these errors also. Here someone fixed it by installing gnome-keyring. I would try that. I'm going to bed now so this is the last from tonight, take care.

Okay before installing gnome-keyring I made sure everything was up to date as follows.

    sudo apt update

And then I proceeded to install it.

    sudo apt install gnome-keyring

To make sure everything functions fine I logged out and back in from my Chromebook closing all and any applications.
I got back onto Unity Hub and was prompted choosing a password after signing in manually. From here I noticed "My project" was removed and had to create a new one, but it still ended up with the same error.

I use Unity on both Windows and Linux and haven't experienced this so I'm just guessing. The way I'd resolve this is to
    grep
the logfile for errors, the prompt gives you a link to the logfile. I'd do it myself but I can't grep your PDF because it's not a logfile but a PDF.

Using Linux, this is a standard procedure when installing new software - you need to handle permissions and target folders manually and pay attention to install logs.

When you added the license, you said it gave you a link to an empty web page. This web page was actually an activation link that called Unity Hub on your system, and if this didn't register, then it could be that the "open software" app (xdg-open) in your Linux fails to redirect you to the app.

So when you click on this link (that you posted), it should open an empty web page, but this should trigger also xdg-open to open your Unity Hub. So it could be a matter of missing configuration between your browser and xdg-open.

    Looky here.

Okay so I've tried launching Unity Hub from my terminal with the url I got by pressing ctrl u at the blank page I gave you a link to using this unityhub unityhub://login/?code= and it worked, but "My project" still won't open.
I am signed in and using the Unity Hub, my license is functional. Unity Hub works great and an earlier version of Unity Editor is installed as well. I create my 2D Template, but when I attempt to open it within Unity Hub I get the error.

Sorry for the inconvenience I searched up a little bit about how to grep and found out that you need the actual file to open it with a terminal, but the file extension wasn't supported here so I changed it into zip to preserve the file.

Ok I think I got it now. You just need to run the Unity Hub as root. It needs root permissions on all systems.

So just run it with sudo.

    just run
    sudo unityhub
and redo everything you did earlier, adding the license and creating a project

I really don't know. I just checked on my Ubuntu, I don't need to run unityhub with sudo. Also, your terminal says it doesn't have $DISPLAY set, which is standard for all graphical terminals. That's very odd.

The command unityhub is a symlink to a file named UnityHub.AppImage. So you can try reinstalling all that, it's just getting that file and adding x rights to it.

I suggest you ask Unity for help.
