    Hi everyone

So I wanted to share my Christmas story with you all.

I’ve been planning to propose for the last few months now, and I knew I wanted to make it something special for the both of us.

My first game (Postie Run) which has been in production for a while now, has been held up by legal matters (nothing bad, just have to clear things with my day job, which is incredibly slow).

So in the meantime, and considering we are both rather large nerds, and since she has been so supportive of my indie game dev, I decided that the best way to ask, was to make a game, just for her, with a very important question at the end :D

It took a few weeks (mainly because the day job got super busy around Christmas), but by then end I made something I’m super proud of.

The game itself has so many personal references, that nearly no one gets it. For example, one day many years ago, she randomly called me her Basketball, and it stuck, lol. And I’ve always called her my Desi Bear (her name is Desi.)

Anyway, long story short, on Christmas morning, I told her that while I’ve been waiting to get clearance for Postie Run, I’ve been working on another game, and it was already published.

She was shocked, and after beating the game, (I programed the game so that on the third attempt, the guns wouldn’t shoot and she could win easily, I didn’t want to spend all day waiting for her to win the game) she SAID YES!!

    We’re both so excited!!

After finishing the game, I love it so much, I’ve decided that for my next game, I’m going to use the concept and mechanics behind A Girl and her Basketball to make a full game, with levels and characters I’ve been developing in my spare time.

    Thanks for reading my story,

I hope everyone else had an amazing Christmas as well, and a Happy New Year :D

    Congraz! :)
I have got to say I have seen people propose to their gf from within the game (MMO), but never to the extent to make a game to propose to your gf. That's really something!

Congrats. That's quite a story to tell! You do realise that you have set the bar for what she'll expect for the rest of your life. ;)

I proposed to my wife on Valantines day. It wasn't deliberately planned romance. She got me a Valintines gift. I forgot that I was Valintines. But I had a ring already.

Now every time I forget a birthday or anniversary I remind her that she knew I was bad with these things before she married me. ;)

Congrats on the engagement! I would have to imagine games are something everyone here is passionate about. Great to see you use that passion to enhance your personal life.

Hey now don't be so pessimistic. There's only a 50% chance of that happening.

Ah I love the dark side of the unity forums.

Wonder if there will be DLC?

It is traditional to release several small expansions soon after marriage. They dont stay small for long.

I can only hope that a man proposes to me in as original and as thoughtful a way as you did here. Well done, sir.

    Congrats!

Maybe you could propose to him instead - unless you're lucky enough to find another gamedev :)

Only if it's a traditional sharia marriage in the UK, because it isn't recognized by the UK as an actual marriage. So that's how two people who think they are married could simply break up :p

She'll need his credit card for cosmetic DLC.

Wonderful! And congratulations on the next phase of your evolution. Now, get started on bringing more kiddie-geeks into the world - we need more of 'em.

This is awesome, congratulations. Years back, I made a flash animated movie of myself and my gf for valentine's day. It was pretty cool. Nice job on making sure she's complete the game. I could just see someone getting frustrated and giving up, and you having to urge them to keep playing. Very good planning.

The real Dark Souls starts here: wedding planning.

Some of the younger peoples will be counting on you. I'd like to believe that nerd love is stronger than ordinary love. Good luck.

    Sincerely,

    Nobody.
which is to suggest that I am nobody, not that nobody would wish you luck.

You should come try my LARP group some time. Nerd politics and break ups are just as messy as any other demographic.

I don't think I could respond to that in a funny way without risking thread closure.
