So lately when I've been importing my models into Unity, parts of it become invisible. What could be the problem? I'd really like help on this.

The normals for those faces are most likely inverted. Press 'n', scroll down to display, switch shading to 'GLSL' and check 'Textured Solid'. This will show you the model with backface culling on. Select the faces that are inverted and reverse the normals.

Yes, scroll down. If the Display section isn't there, tab into object mode.

    I love blender
If you have a more recent version, then in the 3d window, make sure the left and right toolbar things are expanded. On the right, expand display, and select normals:face. On the right side (be sure you are in edit mode and your model is selected) find the normals "recalculate" button. It works best if your model is solid and not flat, then use flip normals for the rest

Turning off Double Sided rendering makes more faces invisible.

Could you provide the .blend file or at least a few screenshots? It is nearly impossible to help with so few information.

    Not Blender related buuut ...
Sometimes if I have a poly that is not showing, I go back to the modelling package and triangulate the face manually. I've seen that work a couple of times. Good luck.

Why can't you upload it? Are .blend files blocked?

It's not changing anything. It's just allowing you to see which faces have inverted normal so you can flip those ones.

    hey

If the model you're trying to import has animations/armatures and all that, make sure every single vertex in the model(s) is weigthed. I had lots of trouble with that in the past and it seemed much like your description.

    hope it helps ;)

Well it's because of the Normals, you should invert the normals, or maybe you can use two side model, like Shell modifier in max

You could try ctrl+n and regulate the normals outside...
I don't know if it helps.

Blender 2.5x is so pleasant to use ... a couple of weeks ago I started to learn modeling and I tried the "famous" 3ds Max and Blender 2.56...

I can't compare for advanced use, but for beginner, Blender 2.5 is definitely not ugly and is so easy to use (and doesn't install 10Go of files that you don't need at all !)

I really suggest you install blender 2.5 even though they tag it as a beta, it's so much more user friendly.

And in that version all you need to do is select your mesh entirely in edit mode.
In 2.5 you will have a menu on the left side of your screen where you will find a button titled "recalculate normals".
Just click on that and your problems should go away.

Of course, as they mentioned before, again in 2.5, press "n" and make sure you are in GLSL for the shaders.

Objects in 2d = orthographic view. Pressing 5 on the numpad toggles the orthographic view.

The blender UI does have a lot of buttons, but most functions can be carried out by key command. It's very handy.

ctrl+shift+n then a small check-box should appear and you can choose how to invert it or switch facing sides.

there is another way to fix the normals problem...

enter to edit mode of your object
    select all the faces
press Shfit + D (to duplicate them)
the new duplicated faces are automatically selected, then Flip the duplicated Normals
and there you go, all faces looking outside... is the shorter way to do..

    blender is great ;)

Get dropbox and put it in the public folder. Then right click on your file, hover over the dropbox slot, the click copy public link. Then paste that link here (on the forums)...

5.49 was soo ugly, remember first time downloading it, i was like aggg just scrolled around the cube, never open it again, its GUI is so anti friendly, but things changed when i got blender 5.56-5.57b its so user friendly and easy to use, in a day or 2 I was making my own simple caracters and stuff, try the new one, its gots a better GUI so cool and easy to understand, I seen C4D and 3DMax and didn´t really like it, couldnpt even manipulate the cubes and meshes, blender is so cool and its FREE!, dont let the FREE tag fool yah, just take some tutorials on the net or youtube :)

Blender 2.5x is much better than any version before 2.49
To recalculate the normals in 2.5x you would go to edit mode (Tab) then select all (A) and then you can press space. Now a menu with a search box will pop up and from this you can do almost anything, if you wanted to you could actually enter editmode and select all from this menu. So after you press space, just start typing normals and there should be an option called 'Make normals consistent'. Just arrow key down to that, hit enter, and the normals are recalculated. If the mesh is solid and has no faces in wrong places, then the recalculation is normally very good and will correct the normals.

To anybody saying Blender is crap, you must check out some videos on YouTube.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUsDlnKiJTI
And take some time to learn the basics of Blender. I have used both Blender and 3DS Max and have to say that Blender is a lot easier to use. Blender 2.5 is adding more and more stuff at every release.

To jtman... someone above mentioned the armature thing. That's what happened to me, I hadn't weighted all of my points to my armature, so the faces connected to those points disappeared.

Blender 2.57 maybe an improvement ....but it still needs more work!!! Selecting the model doesnt show the material editor! Strange!!!
