I came back to unity after about a year break and I remember I used to be able to go to Assets > Import Package and get my Character and other things that way, but now that I came back I can't do that. I have to go to the store every time and it's quite annoying. Am I missing something or a bug or a new feature I'm not aware of? When I go Assets > Import Package I just get the option "Custom Package..." which opens up a folder for me to import. Quite confused please enlighten me :)

For some reason that is not an option to install in the newer versions. You can still keep the version you have installed, but go back in time and download just the Standard Assets. 2018.9.1 is the newest that still has them where you find the download. The newer ones take you to a broken link. Install that package and you will have back what you are use to seeing.
