Hello, since yesterday (10/28/2022) I can no longer reach Unity Answers, no matter with which device in my network I try it.

When it comes to networks, I'm unfortunately anything but a professional. I cleared the cache, restarted the router and that's all I can think of.

The tab says "403 Forbidden" and the page just says "Forbidden, You don't have permission to access /index.html on this server."

I would be very grateful if someone could help me out here.

    Possibly blackout.
Just checked, it works for me.

But I wonder why as professional you still use Unity answers? Besides archive, i is long gone obsolete service.

Most of valuable users are in the Unity forum, or alternatively discord.

99% of searches for problems with Unity on google still direct people towards Unity Answers.

This can happen if the server blocks your IP because it spammed too many requests or whatever.
Restart your router to get a new public IP address or use a VPN. If that won't work you'd have to wait I guess.

I wonder what percentage of those are answered with UnityScript.

In my experience, very few are, to the point of being negligible. UnityScript was considerably less popular than C# for a long, long time, and hasn't even been an option in the editor for around 5 years now. I'd be surprised if it was even 1%.

I never claimed to be professional, I just still quite enjoy using it.

But thanks for all the tips. I've tried everything now. Then I guess I'll just have to wait.

You should get out of the habit of using it as anything other than a read-only resource if you don't do that already. Answers is definitely not long for this world.

It's not that I only rely on Unity Answers, but I still find it quite helpful.
It's also fun to answer a few questions for other users every now and then.

But this wasn't going to be a basic discussion about the usefullness of Answers, I just wanted to know why it doesn't work anymore. I think everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to use it or not :)

    Nonetheless, thanks for the feedback.

No, people really aren't going to be able to "decide for themselves." It was only a few months ago that Answers was going to be taken offline entirely. It's very likely that Answers will eventually reach an archival state formally because it isn't maintained whatsoever.

Yes, thats right, I also read about it. But I still don't see why one shouldn't use it until the time comes?

It's not like I want to build something long-term there. I only like to help with current problems and I have good experience of getting help there myself.

I checked the questions that you've provided answers for and I wouldn't classify any of them as "current". You might be able to make a case for the one concerning TileMap but even then it's a feature that has been in the engine for more than five years. Everything else could have easily been a problem a decade ago. Or more.

If you truly like to help with current problems you should be using the forums. We have sections dedicated to features that are actually recent, sections on features still in experimental stages, sections on alpha and beta releases of Unity, and so on.

Yes, it may be that the topics are not "current", but the questions are, assuming that they are currently being asked.

I don't quite understand why this becomes such a justification?

Does that mean you advise me to ignore them on Unity Answers or write to the questioner "I won't answer this here, go to the forums"?

Don't get me wrong, I get what you're trying to tell me, Unity Answers is deprecated and will be phased out and it would be wiser to move to the forums. I don't deny that either. I've just been checking back in a long time and have kind of gotten stuck in it for the last few nights, until it stoped working.

@anszwa, if Unity Answers will go close down, as it was announced not so long ago, only just stopped by backslash, your answering effort will go out of the window, along wit UA. It may happen, or may not. No one really knows here. But unity actions suggest, not so good for Unity Answers anyway.

You basically supporting long dead service.
Why not to put the effort and expertise, where actually value is?
And yes, Unity forum would be the suggested direction.

@Antypodish ok, I got it. I will shift my activity more to the forum. Thank's for the advice.

But just to clarify, my main goal was to help individual people with topical issues in a timely manner, and that worked well on answers as well.

Of course you are right that both, helping and archiving for a long time is even better.

While that's the point everyone else was making my point was more that everything you're getting from Unity Answers can be gained from these forums too and much more on top of that.

No. If anything that would just chase people away which is the opposite of what we're trying to do. Which is to show people that come to these forums saying UA is down and need a question answered (your case is more unusual since you're looking to answer them) never realizing that they're in a place that they can get it answered.

I'm especially concerned with the very real possibility that once it's finally shuttered they may still not realize it.

OK, yes makes sense. Since Answers is still down for me anyway, I'm currently in the process of finding my way around the forum.
