I am completely new to unity. I have no idea what anything does and all the tutorials I watch are way to specific I really want to just get started on a 2D project. What should I do?

    Hi Ky_don321 and welcome :)

The Unity homepage got a good archive to get started!
Keep an eye on Your First Game and Scripting Lessons. If you get bored by the lessons, try a beginner tutorial here.

    Have fun ;)

*Edit: Oh and if you are finished with basics have a look here, for some extra lessons and don't miss YouTube for some specific tutorials aswell!

Really the best way to start is to jump right in and begin making something. The best teacher here will be experience and you can always learn problems as you go and see the progress you are making with something you were interested in making from the get go

I give you an advice. Think of EASY projects and scripts.

    Here are some examples:
How to create a 2D Rectangle and move it with keyboard input?
How to set up those scripts ect
How to create collision in 2D.

Such things are a good start. You don't have to make own animations or anything. Start of basic you get the hang of it ;)

I was at the EXACT same place as you just a couple of months ago. I signed up for Lynda and took their tutorial on how to make a complete 2d-game. If you follow that guide you will get a very good understanding of how things work in Unity, and it was enough for me to start playing around with my own ideas.

    Hope that helps,

    Andy
