Hi, I'm new to unity and vr in general and trying to learn how to develop. I'm trying to create a door and open/close it based on if the user is pulling on the door knob or pushing the door. If you guys know any tutorial I can watch to get an idea of how to do this or explain how to, please help.

What part are you exactly struggling with?

even a simple thing as opening a door does require a person to know at least the basics of working with Unity. Transforms, colliders, triggers and scripting basics all are important to be able to create the simplest thing. So if you are new yo Unity in general, I suggest you start going trough the learning section of this website: http://unity3d.com/learn

After that you can check out these tutorials about setting up Unity with SteamVR:
It are slightly older videos, so it might be that some things have changed in the latest version of the SteamVR plugin, but it should get you started.

    Take a look at this:

VRTL Steam Toolkit (free) on Git. It extends the standard Steam VR toolset to make it much easier to do things. Example of doors and much more.

Thanks for the replies guys, it's been helpful. Finally got the door to swing open using a hinge joint.
