At college we did something similar for HTC Vive (also in Unity). We took the FBX files that were used as the hands and edited those in our 3D software and saved them again as FBX and were able to drag them into the scripts responsible for the controllers. Not sure if this translates 1-on-1 for Oculus Rift.

I haven't tried exporting out the hands for oculus cause they get created during run time and the hand models they have for download on the oculus website are twice the size of the ones they give in the oculus integration package for unity thanks anyway for help it sounds like its alot easier to work with the HTC Vive then the oculus
