I was wondering what everyone uses to stay up-to-date on the latest gaming news and newest games available? I have always just searched for "best game" on google or looked through the google play store, but I find this hard to find good games. I was hoping maybe someone else would have a better method for me to stay in the loop.

What do you like to stay in the loop on latest development techniques or processes?

    Thanks!

Twitter works for me. I just create private list of journalists and tech/gaming websites. Never really missed much news this way.

I sub to different youtube channels for most of that stuff. CoolLoserTech is one off the top of my head.
    That's mostly Android mobile.

Otherwise, I do have Steam and browse that often as well.

I don't play videogames. Videogames are for nerds.

I watch reviewtechusa and jim sterling. I like jim's reviews and konami coverage. I don't like half of what rich does, but at least I can research the headlines if the video itself is questionable.

I'm sad I didn't grow up in a time where nerd was an insult. It would be so great to go to that highschool reunion and rub my tech job in those guys' faces.

I'm subbed to ForceStrategyGaming on YouTube who does gaming news a few times a week. On top of that I check out Kotaku, steam and other store pages and most of the other youtubers im subbed to will do "show off" vids on games they're enjoying.

Generally where I see games first is on YouTube though.

Are you asking about this as a gamer (i.e. what are the best games to play, what's coming out, etc)? Or are you asking as a game developer?

You're kind of asking two things in your post. My answers would be (if I was to give just one answer):

    http://ign.com

    http://www.gamasutra.com

Maximize the use of your SNS accounts. Games usually have their official FB page, Twitter and Instagram so try and search for them. IF you can't find the game, look for the official accounts of the game developer. That's what I do to keep track and stay up-to-date on my current games. I play GTA5, LIfe is Strange, Project Zomboid, Honeyday Blitz 2 and Metal Slug. The official pages usually updates everyday, hdb2 post everything on their page and it has been quite helpful. Try and look for them

I've got a small group of people I follow on Twitter. If anything really big happens, then a couple of people will retweet it, and my phone will alert me.

For example its international games week in Melbourne at the moment.

@SteveJ what's the point in ign reviews? It's not that hard to generate a review that follows the (8+Math.floor(Math.random()*3)) + "/" + 10 formula.

@SteveJ I didn't mean to be confusing, but I actually was asking from both sides. I am both a gamer and developer and was looking to see what people use from both sides of the coin.

I want to learn both how to stay up to date better on games I would want to play and how to be a better developer. And understanding both sides also helps me to keeps others up to date on my games.

Thanks again for all the input.

N4G, simple news dump site. Mostly use it for its fast and simple mobile version.

Find some teens ask them what they are playing, what is the "big game thing" now. They are nearly always up to date on things at least things like this.

Alternately, don't worry about it really. It's all the same thing with different names presented as something different. What was "old" will become "new" again.

Are you suggesting that gamers are primarily teens?

Maybe just that teens have the most free time to keep themselves up to date...plus they're more likely to follow the latest trends

Sure, the latest trends in SOME things, but not video games.

I watch giant-bomb, totalbiscuit, then pay attention to the something awful LPers and see what they are playing, I also check out the frontpage of armorgames, kongerate, itch.io and gamejolt sporadically.

The game to check right now is downwell, only $3 on steam. On the casual front - "idle games" are getting big which I find baffling.
