Is there any way to put a video in the background of the main menu? My main menu is just plain white and I need to spice it up a bit with a video as the background. Is there any way to do it? This is a top down 2d game if that changes anything.

Just a heads-up, video obviously takes a lot of space and increases the size of your binary, not to mention all the hassle of making sure it works on all targets.

For these reasons I never reach for video but instead make an "attract mode" that basically launches the game and lets it play itself with an attract mode script. Even super-simple attract modes that merely periodically give input to your character can be quite amusing behind a menu screen.

Then you just dim them out a bit with a UI layer so they don't interfere with understanding the UI.

I do this with my Jetpack Kurt main menu:

It's just a terrain with a guy on a jetpack riding to random destinations.

If you find an attract mode intimidating, or your game design wouldn't work well for one this late in the process, you could consider just setting up a scene with some assets from the rest of your game, and writing a few simple scripts to add a little activity to the scene.
