Hello people of the unity forums, unity in a recent update got rid of the unity 4 third person controller, meaning i no longer have a movement script to use but i'm not the best at scripting so if anyone could help me out i would be thankful :)

Unity 5 still has premade first and third person controllers. It might not be exactly the same as it was in 4 (I don't know because I don't use them myself), but they're most certainly still there. If you don't have them in your project, open the Assets menu, go to Import Package, and then click Characters. This will load the Standard Assets > Characters package into your project. In those folders, you'll find both the third and first person controllers, as well as other assorted goodies.

The scripts are there as well. They'd have to be, or the included controllers wouldn't do anything...
Standard Assets > Characters > ThirdPersonCharacter > Scripts
or just look at the controller prefab to see what scripts are attached.
