How do I (if possible) render a 2D Texture in a 3D space?

I'm currently working on a game where the camera is floating diagonally above the player, and now I want some sort of arrow below his feet pointing at the direction the player is looking at, would it be possible to render a (partially transparent) 2D Texture in this 3D space.

    Thanks in advance,

Yes. I'd probably do it as a sprite.
