How to follow alembic animated object?

I have an object that moves around via alembic animation. I tried to make the camera a child of the object so it would follow the object and always have it in view. However, alembic animation doesn't change the position of an object, it merely changes its vertices. So I get that this wouldn't work straight off the bat. But I did notice that the axis gizmo (red, green, blue lines on the object) will move with the centre of the object.

Is there a way I can get the position of that axis gizmo and follow that?
