Question How to edit animation clip not currently in Hierarchy

    I have animation clips that I need to edit but when I click on them in the Project window the record button is greyed out and I can't edit them, I can only edit animations that are already assigned to objects in the Hierarchy. How can I edit these animations?

    The record and preview modes work only in the context of game objects that you have in your Scene that's why they are greeted out.
    You should still be able to select animation file in the Project window and edit the existing animation - modify keyframes, move them around, change properties etc.
