    Hello,

I recently finished a course on Blender. http://www.lynda.com/Blender-tutorials/Blender-Essential-Training/87088-2.html

I know how textures work, and how to UV map them in Blender, but I just don't know a good way to create them.

Please comment if you know a good software for creating JPEGs for textures, and a tutorial (preferably YouTube) on how to create them in the best way.

    Thanks in advance :).

First off, congrats that you finished a Blender course.

You can make/create textures, in software, such as Photoshop and Gimp etc.
    They support JPEG format too.

    I suggest using png. though.
    It's much better. :)

What type of textures are you looking to create?

    I'll post more.
    There are lots on Youtube!

    Thanks :)

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. I would like to create textures for 3D models (that I will create :) ). Basically things like humanoid skins and different types of terrain. Maybe boxes. General things. Maybe the better question would be "how to use GIMP for creating textures?".

Thanks for the tips. I didn't know png. was superior.

There are several options that you can do:
    1. You can paint a texture directly to an object in Blender (texture paint), then save an unwrapped image and open it in Gimp or any other image editing software to make it look bette.
    2. You can also bake ambient occlusion so the model texture looks more realistic, and then save the baked image and open it in Gimp, Photoshop or any other image editing software that supports multiple layers.

All of these you can see in my video and sorry for the buzzing sound of my mouse, my voise and background sounds.
