How to build Ship Interior and Exterior

    Im working on a game where you can fly a spaceship. You will be able to enter and leave the ship and enter other ships as well but the issue I'm running into is modeling the interior. It seems to be difficult to model the inside of the ship currently. Looking back I think I should have modeled the inside first and then the outside so its easier to fit it all inside.

    I'm currently using the Low-Poly (Ship exterior) as a shell and building the inside with primitives and fitting it all inside but that's looking quite difficult. Its also going to be hard to connect the exterior entrances to the polygons inside. Does anyone have a better method to get this done? Or suggestions? I'll appreciate any help!

    I don't think there exists a magic method. You need to plan ahead, and divide your work into sections so that while you work on one section, you can hide all others. One section would be the outside, and then divide the inside spaces in a way that makes sense. This has the benefit that rendering engine could potentially hide some rooms depending on whether you can see them or not.

    I don't see why you couldn't connect exterior entrances to the insides. They should all be made to scale and fit together, otherwise you are doing something wrong.

    You may gain an appreciation for all the work that goes into making a shuttle or space station when you start on a project like that ;)

    You can either think room-based and try to make the shell after slotting together these rooms the way you like it, or you could follow the NASA approach of squeezing in tiny corridors and impractically small cabins, comfort be damned. Which would be realistic. And probably hell to navigate in a game.

    Just work on the interiors first and work on the exteriors after the interiors are complete if the project is big. On smaller projects, such as tanks, I work on the exteriors while taking into account the proportions.
