How terrain billboard created behind scenes?

    It’s impressive how terrain renders billboards from all angles and smoothly transits them to meesh on short distance


    It looks like its not prebaked because it would be huge file with textures baked from all angles. Would be nice to have this algorithm to render houses and stones from long distance.


    Anyone have idea how its done?
