how much are you making if you game got 1 million download in a year

I think you might of taken that a little too seriously? If I'm to be serious for a moment, what about retirement? Buying your own house? Car? What about the cost of a family? Etc. of course by no means have to be rich, but you get older eventually and at some point you have to consider these things.

I did it the other way round, I took the boooring approach. Worked in IT, realised mistakes and opened my own company then grew it and sold it off. Then worked for some major games publishers for experience in this industry, learnt mistakes and started my own indie. Irrelevant whether or not I finish this game, I'll never have to be concerned about money not that I waste it either so I can focus on doing what I have a passion for forever.

 

Lol yeah) Your math is great). But that income is just from crappy copy paste app, imagine if you copy paste 10-20 of this kind of apps... if to think about high quality games, with IAP, Ads, at 1 mill downloads he should make much much more.

 

A game's replayability is also very important. If 1,000,000 download your game and play it everyday for years, as with Candy Crush, those 1 million downloads can be worth a lot of money.

A good metric to track is the game's Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). If a game's ARPU is higher than the cost to acquire a new user, it can be a solid financial success.
