    Hi,

I am working on one sniper game project for my client. Obviously everything including the game mechanics has been provided by him. Yes it is innovative on a few front and I hope it will provide delightful game play experience. Yet I see creating such a game focused on mplayer snipping only is somewhat novel concept for me.

So I am curious to know how many of you play sniper games and how long this interest span remains ?

Well if it's anything like Sniper Ghost Warrior I love them games.
However the multiplayer of it sucked, I just liked the storyline and how the single player felt.
Reminded me a little bit of some of the real life stuff I've been apart of.

However, if it's online, you gotta figure out a way to makes it unique from the rest. Otherwise it will be as pointless as the COD Style Death Matches that Sniper Ghost Warrior had.

I don't play sniper games but when I play world of tanks I prefer to play the tank destroyers (snipers) & artillery. Since the kids play the games I get I wouldn't get it if it showed shooting people.

One issue with a multiplayer sniper game is that it could easily be a very boring and very slow game. A really good sniper will lay on the ground, completely hidden from view, and take out a specific target without being detected. That runs the risk of being a very low action style of multiplayer game. For example, you might have 8 players connected to a server, and each player is simply hiding in a single location waiting for somebody else to move so they can pick them off. If the core gameplay mechanic causes everybody to camp, then the game won't be fun.

One way around this problem would be to design the game as an asymmetric multiplayer. For example, instead of letting all of the players be snipers, maybe you would have one player on one team act as the ultimate sniper vs a team with several players using assault rifles. Think of it similar to the game Evolve, but the monster gets replaced with a sniper. Maybe have a high value NPC that the team needs to protect and the sniper needs to kill. You could design rural and urban settings that would yield fun for the offensive sniper and fun for the defensive team.

I play lots of FPS games and Sniping is very level dependent, large open spaces are where snipers are king. What could work well is if your snipers are working with more standard troops, then you have the dynamic of protecting your troops and pinning/destroying enemy troops. You could add to that with control objectives as sniping can be very campy and static once a position with a good view is obtained.

That could be a very interesting dynamic, but would be more work than just a multiplayer sniper game.

I tend to prefer single player if I'm playing as a sniper. I trend towards the more realistic sniper role of lying in wait for the right moment, takes me ages to play any game as a sniper.

If you're going more towards the CoD style where snipers run around and quick scope everyone...well that's not really sniping imo.

So in multi player it could be boring or it could be great depending on what you do with it. Note - imo both scenarios I mentioned would seem boring to me in multi.
