Hey you might have heard the announcement of Windows 10 by now. I am really excited for this and it's a day one purchase for me (cause im a tech hipster who hangs at starbucks). Anyways, when Windows 8 was released, Unity was hell to work with. An update didn't come out for a few months which completely slowed my development time. Once Windows 10 releases, is Unity going to support it right away or what? I heard they are giving out tech previews so get on it Unity. I want to run Unity 5 with Windows 10 as smoothly as possible :D

Guess you'll be running Windows10 in a VM on your MacBookPro, then. ;-)

Don't update to new OS versions at release on computers that you need to do your daily work. Unity is far from the only software that has issues on new OS versions, and it's insane to take that risk. Wait a while and let them work the bugs out first, both in the OS and the software you use.

Yes but Microsoft released a developer preview that you could download now. Cant unity use that to test unity and have it ready for W10 release?

Internally still Windows 6.4 (same as Windows 8), so I don't know that there would be much, if anything, to fix for Unity. It should have been called Windows 8.2.

They can use it to test, and they *might* have a fully updated version of Unity to release by then, but it's a lot more complicated than it seems. New OS releases tend to create really strange bugs and there is *no* documentation on how to fix them yet because nobody else has experienced it yet. It takes time to run down exactly what's wrong and how to fix it, and even then it *might* be a bug on Microsoft's side. In that case, it either means making a kludge in your own code to work around it (if possible) or waiting for MS to release a patch first.

Beyond all that, Unity is a *huge* project, and testing every nook and cranny in every way that a developer might use it is just not possible. The chances are pretty big that they'll miss something no matter how hard they try.

So there's no guarantees. I'm sure Unity Tech will do all they can, but nobody who's been a programmer for long will update their OS in the middle of a project unless it's absolutely necessary. Heck, they usually won't even update to new Unity versions without specific need, and that's a lot less daunting.
