    Kinda of a simple question..

    Inside Unity, under Projects tab..

Whenever I create a folder in the projects directory it gets named "New Folder", and try as I might I cannot discover how one goes about renaming it...

My workaround has been to create the folder in the OS directly..

Is there a way rename folders within Unity?

    Thanks

Double clicking the folder name does not do anything for me...

But after you mentioned that I tried banging on my keyboard while having the folder selected.. and it eventually went into rename mode.

Seems I have to click on folder, and then hit Enter on keyboard to rename it..

This is on a Mac, perhaps that was why this is all funky.

It's the exact same way you rename things in the Finder or anywhere else. (i.e., either click-wait-click again--not double-click--or press return.)

Yeah, just click the folder and leave the mouse around for a sec, the folder name becomes editable.
Sometimes when you make a new folder or duplicate an object you can't rename it immediately for some reason though.

    Slow double-click is universal rename.

I managed to do it, after I dragged a file inside the folder. I used slow double-click, this time with a better timing, I think.

I think this is confusing to some because you need to slowly double-click the TEXT under the folder's icon (I'm using the tiled view, not list). If you slowly double-click the icon, nothing happens. Normally I wait about 0.5-1 sec between clicks and it works fine.

This might be a bug in 5.6. i never had a problem in 5.5 now clicking on a file or folder you can't rename it. I have both versions installed, might be that. Only work around is to right click and open explorer.

It is an infrequent, hard to replicate, yet annoying bug.

Moving the folder to be a subfolder does work sometimes, and failing that a reboot usually resolves it for me.

It has been around since Unity 2.x as I recall...

    Lmfao, WTF!

right click file >Click show in explorer > Right click folder > Select rename.

This was on a PC running windows 10.

Can't even rename a folder without pain and suffering. I'm about to go back to unreal engine.

It's 2018, why isn't there a context menu option for duplicating and renaming files?

Found a walk around - change the name of the folders in windows and it will change it in Unity as well.

You don't want to do this, it can break references.
Just click, then click again (as noted above), or click and return. You want to rename it in project window in Unity so the assetdatabase is properly updated.

I am having the same problem and OH BOI absolutely none of your solutions work.
The only way to rename the folders is to show in explorer and rename them with windows instead.
And according to zombiegorilla that can break your project.
So what the hell do we do?!

I had the same problem using unity 2018 for a tutorial. Saving, closing unity and opening the project again fixed it.
