How do you guys use asset store models, rigs & anims? Just stick in? Modify in Blender or 3dsMax?

    Hello

I started learning game development little while ago, and originally I figured that I could combine Unity Asset Store and Blender to make a game nice and easy. I figured I could download models, rigs and animations from the store, and then combine and modify them to give characters an unique look suited for my games.

Now, it turns out that the Store assets are mostly .FBX, and Blender (2.72b) can't import FBX files with rigs or animations properly, and I get stuff like this:

    Mixamo_soldier_with_blender_fbx.PNG animation_fbx_with_blender.PNG animation_fbx_with_blender_2.PNG

Seem to work nicely in 3ds max though, so I dont know if I should switch to that after spending some time in learning Blender. Or maybe I can get those work with a plugin or something. BOS FBX-importer?

How do you guys utilize the Unity Asset Store models, rigs and animations? Or do you think its just easier to do things from scratch?

If it is working for you in 3ds Max you could always import on max, export to another format to work with inside of Blender. You could also do the same solution if you chose Fragmotion as a import/export option. Personally my asset store doesn't work inside of my client, so I can't utilize the store at all. Even so, I would rather just make all the assets myself. If you still are diehard determined to import others models that you bought and manipulate them to your projects needs, you can also try turbosquid, not that I am endorsing that website, but its always a viable option for 3d assets if you are willing to pay out of pocket.

Thanks k1mset. Those turbosquid resources are actually pretty impressive.

Do you know if 3ds max has some format that works better with blender than .FBX?
