How do you get properly started?

Hello, I am an absolute and utter newbie concerning Unity, and, either by my incompetence (a quite valid explanation), or by the malfunction of my crappy computer, or the malfunction of the website, I cannot seem to figure out how to actually start doing anything. Obviously I made a Unity account, and I have repeatedly tried to download the 'personal' version of Unity, but to seemingly no avail. I can't even get any of the tutorials to work, as far as I can tell. Any advice for a poor, pitiful noob, such as I?

 

Well, one thing at a time. The tutorials use Unity, so if you haven't even managed to download Unity, then obviously you're not going to get anywhere with those.

So, you'll need to elaborate on the "no avail" of downloading Unity. Without more information to go on, I could speculate that every time you try to click the download button, feral cats burst into your room and abscond with your mouse before you're able to click it. The solution in that case would be to lock the door. But that's only a guess, and other problems would have other solutions.

 

Might wanna check for hardware and software issues on ur pc or laptop

It doesn't matter how slow it pc is it should be able to download and run unity

I use a 3gb laptop and run unity smoothly
So I might wanna look into it

If it using an outdated system like the first ever Mac then I prefer u buy a new one
Even a cheap second hand laptop less than 200 dollars is enough to get u going

 

I wouldn't think a second hand laptop would do the trick...
whats the last version of Unity that even runs on i386?

First off -- you're not a poor pitiful noob. You are a human being, the apex predator, the master of life on earth, a walking brain ready to solve problems no matter how complex.

Like others said, just take your issues one problem at a time. The first step is to install Unity, so you need to figure out why you can't install it. If you want other people to help you, you have to be very specific about the steps you've taken, what results you got, and what your environmental factors are.

Further motivation -- when I started out just a few months ago, I literally new nothing about computers beyond how to send emails and restart the thing if it was acting weird. But I took my time, did some reading, and the first major step I took was building my own computer so I'd be able to do the work I wanted to do. All the information is out there, you just have to have patience and high standards for yourself.

If you aren't familiar already, look up Scientific Method. I know this seems like grade school stuff, but refreshing your mind on the proper way to figure things out will go a long way with helping you break problems down into step by step experiments to discover ways to fix them.

 

What's the specs on your "crappy computer"? As long as it meets the system requirements you should be good to at least get it installed and running, even if it runs a bit slow. Your computer wouldn't happen to be running a 32 bit OS would it?
