How do I scale an object in two axes at the same time, like how Unreal Engine 4 does it?

In Unreal Engine 4, the user is able to scale an object in two axes at the same time by dragging on the strut connecting the two axes together. (For example, I drag the strut connecting the X and Y axis to scale in the X and Y direction simultaneously.)

How can I do that in Unity?

So to resurrect this ... is there no way to do this? There are times when I'd love to scale a mesh in the editor on 2 axis but not the third. This is fairly common in 3D apps.

I would like to know how to do this, as well. They have this functionality for transformation and scaling could be done in a near identical fashion.

Hi, so sorry to bump this thread but I also like to add a +1 on this, specially when doing some world building (ProBuilder) that would be extremely useful.

...and give us keyboard shortcuts to select/deselect our axis when translating.
That Z arrow gets hidden to easily !! As do the others at times
To be able to have a keyboard shortcut to click and select/deselect would be more practical.

As far as I can tell, it's been almost 5 years since I posted this thread.

Unity still doesn't have support for Plane Axis Scaling. (I think that's the terminology, I could be wrong...), in 2019.2f.
