How do I place an image onto a stl/obj file in Unity?

Hello,

I downloaded a 3d model from thingiverse, converted it from an stl file to an obj file, and now I'm struggling to get an image from my assets to show on the model. For example, when I try to drag an image onto the object, it just shows up as one color, not the actual picture.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

 

sounds like missing UV maps, and most likely STL file doesnt have them at all..

would need to make uv map in some external 3d tool. (Blender or others)
