I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can not seem to find any posting/links about how to do the following.
( I'm sure I'm not searching for the correct topic)

I have game pieces that I want to photography and turn into assets for a unity game I'm working on.
I don't see anything in the asset store that comes close to what I need, so I need to create my own.

To start with I'm looking for open source (not able to afford professional software or hardware at this time)
not sure what software to use ( gmax, blender, etc)
or even if I need to have something other than my D90 Nikon.

any links to tutorials, software or suggestion on how to get started doing this is welcome.
    Thanks

You would need to generate the 3D model files using a 3D scanner or multiple 2D pictures sent through software to create a 3D model based on the 2D images. Once you have those files created, then you can import them into Unity and attach them to game objects. Search for "3D scanner" and for "photogrammetry". That should get you started.
