    Hi,

    Next to interactive 3D models, I'm trying to use Unity for animation. In the Made with Unity unbelievable great results can be found.
    For a project I have a 3D model with a lot of grass. Unfortunately I can't get a realistic result. Some problems that I run into are:
    • I can't find an effective way to populate an existing (non terrain) 3d model with grass models;
    • If grass models are placed, the models becomes slow very quick;
    • If I try to Bake a model with a lot of vegetation models, Unity hangs;
    • (Non grass) Animated water examples doesn't seem to work with the LDRP and HDRP render pipeline;
    • (Non grass) It looks like there is some kind of halo / reflection on the objects (see example animation below);
    • Now I have a partially baked model with a little vegetation. the situation now:

    3D models without vegetation are looking great:

    Does nobody have tricks to increase the quality of unity models with vegetation?

    Well, vegetation in realtime engine are mostly planes with a transparent texture/shader, but not always billboards tho. In your case, don't use billboards, just well placed planes. You might want to try some other textures, since the ones in your reference are way darker (maybe the ambient occlusion) and a bit sharper. Try to play with the Transparent, Fade and Cutout shaders to see what fits best.

    Partial bake is a good lighting setup for this kind of little scene, i wouldn't change that.
